We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Over 600 People in Contact with Hungarian Delegation Tested Negative for COVID-19
AKP Phnom Penh, November 05, 2020 --

Some 628 people having contact with the Hungarian delegation on a visit in Cambodia on Tuesday were all tested negative for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), underlined this morning the Ministry of Health in a press release.

After receiving the news on positive test of the minister of foreign affairs and trade of Hungary during his mission in Thailand on Nov. 4, the Cambodian Ministry of Health has immediately tracked down and tested those who had in close contact with him during his official visit in Cambodia on Nov. 3, it pointed out.

As of 23:00, Nov. 4, the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia showed the negative test results of the tested 628 people, said the same source.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health announced three new recovered cases from COVID-19, bringing the total cured patients in the Kingdom to 286 or 97.95 percent of the total 292 confirmed cases.

If I remember correctly, whilst Vietnam was already in a strict lockdown, HE told people that they can leave the country if they want to wear mask and let hundreds of tourists disembark from a cruise ship with confirmed Covid cases. The response in Cambodia came very late, that is why I still think a lot of luck was involved.

Did this Hungarian minister take his 12 year old nephew's suit by mistake?

It looks pretty fucking tight. I doubt he could raise his arms to his shoulders

Cambodia’s ‘Bridge into Europe’ Tests Positive for COVID-19
Prime Minister HE, among hundreds of others, is in quarantine after meeting with Hungary’s foreign minister.
By Luke Hunt
November 06, 2020

Cambodian Prime Minister HE, his wife and at least 18 bodyguards are in quarantine after meeting with the Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus shortly after leaving the country.

A health ministry official said 628 people were confirmed as negative following tests in response to his visit, but HE said he and others would enter quarantine as a precautionary measure.

Szijjártó’s visit had been hailed as a success after he told Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn that the Hungarian government was ready to serve as the bridge in cooperation between the European Union and Cambodia.

That bridge is much needed, given the EU’s recent decision to withdraw some trade perks in response to this country’s human rights record. The European bloc has also designated Cambodia a “high risk” nation for money laundering, which could result in the imposition of sanctions.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto shakes hands with Agriculture Minister Veng Sakhon at a signing ceremony in Phnom Penh on November 3, 2020, as Prime Minister HE and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn look on, in this photograph posted to HE’s Facebook page.

A government minister said on Thursday that the Hungarian delegation that visited this week — and from which a member later tested positive for Covid-19 — along with the Foreign Affairs Ministry had asked for no mandatory masks, alcohol spraying or temperature checks during a signing ceremony.

Their quick visit — arriving and departing on the same day — also apparently violated Health Ministry measures requiring that all diplomats are tested upon arrival and must wait 24 hours for test results.

Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian Foreign Minister, visited Phnom Penh on Tuesday — signing three agreements with the government as well as visiting a museum and meeting students — and tested positive after flying to Bangkok that night.
