Smoke Detector / Alarm

Post by Brody »

I've just come to the realization that it's quite idiotic that I still don't have a smoke alarm for my house.

Would any of you fine forum members be able to steer me in the right direction so that I might procure one or two?

A brief online search didn't yield much other than a place in Sen Sok and I'd rather not drive way the hell out there if I can help it.

My ex partner could have made a lot of money as a smoke detector - the F@#$%^^&* racket she used to make when she smelled smoke on me...

I looked for one when I first got here. I couldn't find any easily and the moment passed. I bought a few from the UK when I went home for the first time.

However, some friendly advice: Assuming you live in an apartment above the ground floor - Get 2 of them

One for the outside of your front door. You'll still hear it and it will go off well before the smoke gets inside your door, perhaps buying valuable time.

One for indoors in case you're the one setting fire to the place.

Don't get a cheap one. Get one that can distinguish between you burning your breakfast toast and a burning apartment. I think it's something to do with the Co2 content, but don't take my word for it. Just buy a good one.

Some come with lithium batteries pre-installed which last for up to 10 years. These are normally the good ones.

Finally... test them once a month.

Try Mr DIY in Sorya Mall, street 63, 3rd floor. They have a lot of stuff. If that is a long way from you then ask and I'll have a look next time I am in Lucky's, it's very local to me.

Sound advice, Doc. I have some free time tomorrow, so I'll dip into Sorya mall and have a look see. I haven't been there in ages so it'll be nice to meander around and see what's new. :thumb:

Yes, I saw some in Mr DIY about a month ago.
Otherwise buy from ebay.com via CamboQuick.

Mr DIY is great. I go in for one thing, normally find it, and then end up seeing something else and getting that too.

I thought of Home Top and had a look at their Bookface but didn't see anything definitive.

I'm feeling lazy and wanted some solid leads........but I may just swing by there on my way to Mr. DIY and have a gander if it's a nice day.

On your way to Home Top, you could drop in to this place (if you can find it) #51, St 271, Sangkat Phsa Deom Tkov.

They have a smoke detector for $12 >>> https://powerpac-kh.com/search?type=pro ... e+detector
