Fake Monks Try Rip Off Koh Kong Residents

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia News (Koh Kong): On October 8, 2020, the monks from the monastry at Sre Ambel collaborated with Koh Kong police to arrest two fake monks for begging for money from local people. The police found that the suspects didn't have any identification documents.
The fake monks hired a car from Siem Reap to go to Koh Kong disguised as monks in order to beg for money from the people at the market or other places in Koh Kong.

After their detention, the false monks were defrocked by the Koh Kong chief monk from Sre Ambel, and then sent to the police station to follow the legal procedure.

Best share taxi ride i ever had was late one night, Battambang to Pursat with a couple monks.
The older fat jolly smiling one had broken english and was the funniest jolliest man i have ever met in my life - he just exuded hilarity and a wonderful joyous wisdom of the world.
Professional fake monks.
They tried to entice me to join them at Pursat's seediest KTV dive when we dropped them off at the door
- i shouldda, The girls, everybody, would have had the most uproaring riotest, joyous night of their lives.

Real monks.
