If one refers to the current Nautical Chart for Kg SAOM, Chart 93283, Edition 5, NTM 201138, on which all soundings (depths) are stated in metres, there seems to be a degree of misinformed/uninformed information flowing across this thread.
The average soundings/depth inshore is 4 metres closing to 2 metres in places.
Given that current Australian Armidale-class Patrol Boats draws 2.7 metres, there is almost no chance that a large Chinese or other national ocean-going war ship could use this base unless of a shallow draught multi-hull design.
I reserve my judgment about all being written on this matter.
The very long airstrip in relatively close proximity is an entirely different matter though.
