That greatly oversimplifies it, it’s not just a religious belief, it’s societal as well. And there are potentially health benefits to it, lower STI prevalence, and cancer reduction, for example.
If you’re against it that’s fine, but your statement is ill informed at best.
up to you...

barbaric

the apparent 'benefits' are in adulthood, though i also see plenty of people lamenting their loss
let them decide, as adults

Why do you want to mutilate your child?
You have access to the internet so I’d assume you also have access to soap and water? and when he’s older he should have access to condoms? that should eliminate the need to disfigure your baby for health or hygiene reasons.
Alternatively, is the reason that your “higher power” of choice has provided your baby with a little something extra just so it can be sliced off to appease them? or do they believe that Mother Nature got it wrong and the only way to make your baby “acceptable” is to carve a little bit off him? These “higher powers” must be quite fickle, imagine being prepared to condemn a child and/or a parent over a little bit of skin!
The only other reason I could think of is that your parents had you mutilated as a child, and now you want to carry on the “tradition”?
Why not leave your baby as nature intended, then when he is old enough let him decide?

So, atst, following your logic, any woman who has suffered involuntary Female Genital Mutilation, FMG, should also inflict the same on her own daughters? I think not in a better educated more enlightened world.

Religious practices aside, why mutilate a perfectly formed new born?

Let the child, male or female, decide for them self on reaching adulthood. Then they can make an informed decision.

Adult circumcision, whilst not that common is common enough. Whilst serving in the jungles of Malay in the early 1960s a number of soldiers I knew elected to have adult circumcision.

There are medical reasons for men to have a circumcision, Phimosis is where the foreskin is too tight to be pulled back over the head of the penis (glans).
This can sometimes cause pain when the penis is erect and, in rare cases, passing urine may be difficult. Balanitis is where the foreskin and head of the penis become inflamed and infected. Paraphimosis is where the foreskin can't be returned to its original position after being pulled back, causing the head of the penis to become swollen and painful.
Immediate treatment is needed to avoid serious complications, such as restricted blood flow to the penis.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

My son was born in April and I wanted to get him circumcised but the place where he was born didn't do it and his mother seemed confused by what I was asking for. So he is a cavalier rather than a roundhead. Its too late now.

Also for those against the idea of circumcision I am in the unusual position of having been both. I was circumcised aged 27 due to a medical issue. Having no foreskin is so much better. It's cleaner and sex is better too.

WRONG! It can be a health issue. See my former post for details.

For 27 years you were healthy, not everyone needs to have it done. It's not a health issue when you're born
Another fascinating topic on CEO

It's not confirmed I am having a boy, however, I would like to be prepared. My reason for wanting to get a baby boy snipped is not religious, nor for health reasons (although I hear there are some benefits). It's because whenever I watch porn and there is an uncut dude getting foreplay, it just looks unsatisfying, not fun, and sometimes just nasty. So there you have it.
