Apparently​ the RT is locked by Microsoft from installing other operating systems. If you would have checked my urls you can unlock it if it has not been upgraded to windows 8.1 (even then it's possible, but there is a change to brick it)

Ubuntu used to be pretty decent. Same for Mint.

The Surface RT I bought new at the time, 2013 and is running on Windows 8.1
The only upgrades it has had from the time of buying new is that of office.
Now my browser is crying out for upgrade because it says it is not supported, so I have downloaded the upgrade from Windows, "But" the reply once downloaded "this program will not run on your computer". All very frustrating, has on the whole it will not except any updates. Also the additional Apps I added over the years have now disappeared. I suppose it's the end of an era, and I can only also look forward to the same result o my Microsoft Lumia 640ltd and 940 phones going in the same direction in the near future. And I read that this was in aid to develop the new Microsoft Surface Phone.

Sometimes the good advice needs repeated.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has computers running Linux. They can do things on them that they cannot do on Windows computers. If there are any who don't know, Bill Gates became the richest man in the World selling Windows. Linux is now a massively superior operating system. Bill Gates knows Windows will eventually die. But he is still making a lot of money from those who have never put in the effort to become familiar with Linux.

You would think Microsoft would do the decent thing after stopping support for the Surface RT

What a leap of faith!
Khmer isn’t very useful outside of Cambodia. Learning it does not open up a huge amount of possibilities in Brazil. However, signs in English are located at every major airport in the world.

On to subject of Linux. Any domestic user doesn’t want to learn Linux. Any domestic user just wants something to work. The idea of harnessing computer power and efficiency appeals to programmers and tech personnel. Even the Mac Operating System runs Linux (actually Unix with a Darwin kernel) underneath.

I don’t want to open SSH Shell and $bash something on my iPhone to make a call or read this forum. I would rather press the phone app or the Tapatalk app.

I admire those who go with Linux and the many flavors.
