Cambodia News, Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of September 1, 2020, in a suspected case of rape and murder, a young girl was found dead in a rented room in Chrey Kong village, Sangkat Choam Chao II, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh.

According to the victim's mother, she left her daughter, a 14-year-old schoolgirl, at home watching TV while she went to do some shopping. When she returned to the room at 4pm, she found her daughter lying dead in a pool of blood. The mother screamed and the neighbors came running. Police are hunting the killer.

Cambodia News, Phnom Penh : The man suspected of being a vicious killer who has raped and killed a 14-year-old girl on the afternoon of September 1, 2020, has been arrested by the criminal police. The forces of the Ministry of Interior arrested him on the morning of September 2, 2020 at the base of the Prek Pnov bridge, after questioning neighbors to identify him as Lach Chantha, 25 years old, living in the same village as the victim, in a rented house in Group 2, Chrey Kong Village, Sangkat Choam Chao II, Khan Por Senchey.

The victim, 14-year-old Ping Srey Pich, a student at HE Chumpouvorn High School, has a father named Try E, a 50 year old tuktuk driver, and a mother named Chan Srey Mom, 45 years old, who works in a factory in Dey Krahorm village, Sopheas commune.
The suspect is under the jurisdiction of the criminal police of the Ministry of Interior who are preparing a case to send on to the court for legal action.

Cambodia News, Phnom penh: The man who was arrested by the specialized police force, Lach Chantha, 25 years old, has confessed that he had first shocked the victim with an electric baton, and then stabbed her to death, before he raped her.

The victim, 14-year-old Ping Srey Pich, is the fourth and youngest child in the family. Her mother, Chan Srey Mom, has gone into a state of deep shock and has been admitted to hospital for treatment.

I can't help questioning how or why these perpetrators seem to confess so quickly. The only legitimate reason I can think of is that the evidence is simply overwhelming there's no way they could possibly deny it.

I suspect that's often not the case however. And if it isn't, it does lead to more questions than it answers.

I didn't want to say anything before they caught the guy, but in a lot (most?) cases like this, the perp is someone known to the victim. Either a neighbor or a family member. When you see the neighborhood where this occurred (little alleyways), you can imagine that everyone knows everyone, and anyone unknown from outside would be seen and watched, and most people live with their doors open on to the street. There was a lot of blood too.
I don't know how the police found the guy, but imagine that it wasn't too difficult, and that all the neighbors would cooperate to find a child murderer. It's hard to keep secrets in a village.
As for the confession, all the police needed to say tothe perp was that they would release him if he didn't confess. I'm sure that anything the child's father and friends would do to him would be much worse than jail.

Feel so sorry for that poor girl and her family. RIP

Are you kidding?? The reason that kid is fucked up beyond imagination is BECAUSE his parents must be also for not having been strong enough during his child rearing, presuming the parents didn't give him to their parents to (ahem) 'raise' like most Khmer do.

I understand that as adults, we make our own decisions, and some might argue that his parents aren't in any way responsible for this incredibly young girl's death. But he may very well have still been living with his parents, again, as many Khmer
do, and still if not, at age 25, wasn't far removed from living with them.

Having said all this, the girl definitely deserves some blame here as well.

All I know about this is what is said in the news here, ie. I read that the 14 year old girl was at home alone in her family home (which is a rented room because her family are poor). Her father was out at work and her mother went to get groceries.
The news item says that the guy came in to their home and tasered the girl and cut her throat before raping her.
He MIGHT have been her neighbor, and she MIGHT have said 'Hey, come in' because she knew him. But that is not her fault. It's disgusting to suggest that a 14 year old girl is responsible for her own rape and murder.
