All Schools to Reopen on 7 September 2020
Re: All Schools to Reopen on 7 September 2020
Not so. There is no more online for government school children. They attend school for 2 days a week and are left to their own devices for the rest of the time. It is not clear that this is necessarily temporary. The private schools for the children of the elite are presumably returning to full time schooling while the poor are left with what amounts to almost no education. If there is only teaching for 2 days a week does this mean that one school year will extend to three years? The number of hours at school for each of the two days also appears to have been reduced to 3.

TVETs allowed to reopen on September 21
The Ministry of Labour announced today that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes can re-open fully from September 21, but should ensure they adhere to official guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On July 15 the government allowed TVET institutes to resume on-campus exit examinations and thesis defense.
TVETs that were closed due to the pandemic had previously appealed to the government to be allowed to reopen while COVID-19 remains under control, and yesterday their request was granted.
Minister of Labour Ith Samheng said today that when reopening the institutes, they need to ensure health and safety guidelines are strictly followed to contain the spread of COVID-19.
He said the entire premises must be cleaned, tables must be set up with 1.5-metre distancing, and limits for the number of students per class must be implemented.

Minister: More schools close to reopening
Voun Dara | Publication date 21 September 2020 | 22:55 ICT
Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron on Monday authorised directors of education departments nationwide to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and issue permits for schools licensed by their respective One Window Service Office (OWSO) to reopen.
The Ministry of Education referred to Directive No 43 dated September 1, on the reopening of general education institutions and private kindergartens in the second phase.
The ministry also pointed to its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the re-operating of educational institutions in the context of the Covid-19 disease dated August 4.
In a letter issued on Monday, Chuon Naron informed the directors of his decision. All educational institutions which were issued licenses by the OWSO in their jurisdiction are eligible to reopen.
After directors inspect and evaluate the educational institutions in line with the SOPs, they are then asked to send a report of the inspection and the permission letter to the ministry. They must send the documents no later than three days after they receive a permit to reopen.

Re: All Schools to Reopen on 7 September 2020
It may be of interest to some to know that Florida School in Siem Reap is reopening for English courses on 5th October. They will not start Khmer curriculum until November. Since our government school is now only offering 2 hours a day for 2 days a week there is little choice but to do Khmer curriculum in a private school. Florida is offering 4 hours a day for 5 days a week for Khmer and two hours a day for 5 days a week for English. I have heard that some government schools are offering one week on and one week off instead of 2 days a week. I do not know how many hours per day.
