This is probably the story that you are thinking of:Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 5:19 pmDid you hear this from a third party, or is it just a story that floats around?Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 11:53 am I remember a story of an English girl here who got a spider bite. What started as a small red lump quickly descended into a full blown emergency, eventually with her getting back to England and having here leg saved - just. Moral of the story - any new red swollen painful lumps on you body need to be quickly put in front of a (real) doctor quickly. Time is of the essence with toxic bites.
Heard similar myself, always assumed it was a shaggy dog story.

Ah yeah, to be honest, she was desperately unlucky to have that happen.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 5:24 pmThis is probably the story that you are thinking of:Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 5:19 pmDid you hear this from a third party, or is it just a story that floats around?Doc67 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 11:53 am I remember a story of an English girl here who got a spider bite. I know of someone in Australia who had a chronic problem with his leg, from a spider bite.
It can happen anywhere in the world. Nobody is trying to show Cambodia in a bad light.
Have you watched similar TV shows? They have to be professional.
The story probably has more to do with flights not being available for him to return home.
If you were bitten by a spider, and were in a similar situation, would you be better prepared?
## I thought I knew all the answers, but they changed all the questions. ##

This would be being reported by BBC News. Not really a ‘TV show’.explorer wrote:I know of someone in Australia who had a chronic problem with his leg, from a spider bite.

They have had months to report on any UK citizens ‘stuck’ in Cambodia. And it’s my understanding that there are flights back to the UK.
And yes I would be more prepared, as would most travellers I think. Insurance, sufficient funds, family and friends back home as back-up.
You don’t find anything at all sketchy about his story? “Working holiday” visa here... eh? Magically curing a serious necrotic tissue problem with internet knowledge and self-prescribed medications?

Do any photos exist of him and the leg together - a full body shot showing that this is his leg?

I got some pretty bad skin infections from what I thought were regular mosquito or ant bites, so I'm not
really surprised that a spider bite can turn this nasty. This also serves as a reminder that it's a good idea to go see a doctor. I didn't and self medicated with antibiotics; it worked but in a more severe case losing a few days trying could have horrible consequences.

I was recently bitten on the calf by an insect in the forest. I am on my third week of antibiotics for the small but painful abcess that it caused. I can imagine if left untreated for a month or two one could end up in serious problems.TheImplication wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 1:48 am I’m guessing it had to be some type of snake bite to cause that much damage.

i met Andy, yeah it is his leg, its been getting better slowly, but it comes back, each time a little less serious, right now he is walking pretty well compared to 2 months ago, so prognosis looks good eventually, but he's a heavy smoker so healing is slower.
