Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

At 6:30pm at Street 390, a gas explosion caused a huge fire setting multiple houses alight.

Owners of the homes as well as neighbours scurried to remove as many possessions as possible from said homes but within five minutes flames grew stronger.

It is unknown whether anybody has been hurt in the incident but fire engines arrived within 15 minutes as well as police.

Well that's two explosions/fires in a short period of time. Expect a tightening of regulations soon.

I tuned in to one of the local TV channels last week and they were running quite a lengthy PSA about gas bottle safety in Khmer with English subtitles. It included footage of what appeared to be the Street 63 fire, so was undoubtedly a response to that.

That said I doubt people using those little cans of gas are going to remove them from the cooktop after every use, put a cap on them, and store them on a shelf.

Meanwhile there are two stacks of bricks outside the Street 63 place so they are obviously keen to rebuild ASAP.
