First International Aviation Training Opens in Cambodia

Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 13 – The Center for Leadership and Professional Development (CLPD) of the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) has become the first and only Cambodia's Accredited Training School (ATS) on aviation’s dangerous goods, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Thursday.

The program will allow CLPD to use their own materials and highly qualified instructors to enable airlines, airports, cargo operators, governments, ground service providers, travel agents, young professionals to upgrade their professional competencies to meet the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

IATA is the trade association for the world's airlines, representing some 290 airlines and 82 percent of total air traffics.

Dr. Guido Gianasso, President of CLPD and AUPP’s Board Member, said, "CLPD's ATS status here in Cambodia allows local airline operators, cargo providers and local authorities such as State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) to have access to the world’s most professional dangerous goods training.”

"Previously, Cambodia's air transport professionals dealing with dangerous goods would have to travel to Singapore or Hong Kong to obtain this level of professional training. The benefit of choosing DG training at CLPD includes local recognition by Cambodia’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), elimination of travel time, and cost saving,” he added.

CLPD has the privilege to deliver specialised Dangerous Goods training based on IATA's standards in a variety of topics, including Dangerous Goods Regulations; Infectious Substances Shipping Guidelines; and Shipping Medical Radioactive Material.

IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) is important for trainees to stay up-to-date with the latest industry regulations and procedures, and ensure that their dangerous goods shipments comply with industry standards.

Dr. Guido Gianasso thanked the SSCA for the close cooperation and coordination, paving way for Cambodia to have the first international aviation-training site.

According to Dr. Guido, the CLPD facilities at AUPP include an A320 door trainer, simulated smoke environment room, aviation medical center, aviation fire trainer and emergency evacuation slide trainer.
