This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. I haven’t seen much on that in recent months in relation to covid. But everywhere non-stop talk on vaccine this, vaccine that, lockdown this, mask that.

With one exception, the washing of hands advice has been the single feasible so far and useful for curbing other diseases.
You also have heard practically nothing from the "health agencies" or the media about strengthening your immunity by taking Vitamin D, zinc, Vitamin C and other essential nutrients that most people are deficient in. In fact I think they have denied that this would be helpful. They are nothing less than criminals.

Countries should be making these nutrients available to their populations at reduced cost. But no countries are doing so as far as I know.

Strengthening your nutrition is the single best way to boost your immunity so Covid can't harm you. It's simple and safe, unlike vaccines.
If you are in Cambodia you already have plenty of sunlight (Vit D) and plenty of fresh fruit available. I don't think you should need a govt agency or the media to tell you that this is good for health. :ugeek:
Washing hands more often has been a good message though.

They are not regulated by the FDA and their tests showed that most of them did not contain the ingredients on the label.
Most had like less than10% of the stated percent.

Some had zero percent, like the Gingko Biloba I was buying for $17 a bottle!

Even if they were to contain the advertised percentage it was way more than what your body requires.
So for $17 a bottle, all you get is expensive pee.
What do you expect from 60 minutes? I'll bet their main advertisers are Big Pharma and Big Pharma hates vitamins and supplements and pays people to try to discredit them.

I'm not saying that some of what 60 minutes said might not be true, but it does not apply to most reputable supplement brands. I've also seen studies that showed variance with label claims but nothing too dramatic.

The expensive pee argument is controversial and lots of scientists disagree.

Wall Street Journal:

"From frozen dinners to vitamins, the labels on our foods are sometimes incorrect. Earlier this month, the attorney general of New York accused GNC, Target, Walgreens and Wal-Mart of selling herbal supplements that claimed to contain ingredients they didn’t actually contain; indeed, DNA tests of some of these stores’ supplements found that just 21% contained DNA from the herbs and plants listed on the label.

The New York review wasn’t the first to reach such conclusions. A study released in 2013 in the journal BMC Medicine — in which 44 bottles of herbal supplements from 12 companies were tested — found that one-third of the supplements tested didn’t contain the supplement advertised (so, for example, a bottle of St. John’s wort didn’t actually have any St. John’s wort herb in it). Many other supplements contained ingredients like wheat and rice that weren’t even listed on the label—even though they can cause allergic reactions in some consumers."

If you think the stuff sold in the US is bad, go have some of the products dumped here by Thailand, Vietnam and China analyzed. And I ain't just talking about vitamin tabs!

PHNOM PENH, July 6 (The Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The Cambodian Ministry of Interior’s Counter Counterfeit Committee will send a suspect to court on Monday after she allegedly roasted coffee mixed with soybeans and other ingredients, creating a product which could pose a high risk to consumers’ health.

On the afternoon of July 2, the Committee, headed by Kandal Provincial Court deputy prosecutor Ek Sun Reaksmey inspected and closed 33-year-old Thun Nath’s coffee roasting operation in Kraing Mkak commune’s Trapeang Khtoem village in Ang Snuol district...

The Cambodian producers of Coca-Cola products have moved quickly to reassure its customers that its products are safe to consume following media reports that some of its lines had been found being counterfeited.

According to the July 11 edition of The Phnom Penh Post (The Post) ‘Coca-Cola, Fanta, 7-Up, and energy drink Samurai’ were among brands being counterfeited at a Kampong Thom mineral water factory raided by police and officers from the Interior Ministry’s Counter Counterfeit Committee (CCC) on Wednesday (July 10). However, it is fake news.

Phnom Penh: Currently, some companies and factories are increasing the production of counterfeit products. Poor standards cause health problems to the lives of Khmer citizens.
The crackdown occurred at about 1 pm on January 18, 2019, at the factory, located near Phnom Penh International Airport.
As a result of the inspection, up to 40 fake food products were found, including soy sauce, oil, chicken soup, chicken soup powder, vinegar, salted water, as well as juice, fish sauce, etc.

Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese are the real danger in fake food industry in Thailand ?
