Lebanon ex-interior minister: Israel blew up port
https://asiatimes.com/2020/08/lebanon-e ... d7ff190aa4Nohad Machnouk is the first senior Lebanese politician to openly blame the Jewish state
Israel was “clearly” responsible for the explosion that shattered Beirut on August 4, killing more than 170 people, wounding thousands and destroying swaths of the city, Lebanese former interior minister Nohad Machnouk told a press conference Wednesday.
“This operation in Beirut was carried out by Israel in a clear and explicit manner,” Machnouk said, adding: “It is clear we are looking at a crime against humanity, and therefore no one dares to claim responsibility for it.”
....A US military explosives expert who has worked closely with the Lebanese army told Asia Times on condition of anonymity that according to his contacts among the Lebanese armed forces, the explosion was an “act of sabotage” against the hangar in question, which was allegedly holding not only ammonium nitrate, but short-range missiles.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Re: Massive Explosion in Beirut
Lebanon’s former government was dominated by Hezbollah. Who else are they going to blame for their incompetence? Themselves? Iran?
The natural choice is blame Israel for all their problems. All Israel’s neighbors do it.
Arafat did it for decades. His wife and kids have a nice place in Paris. And the Palestinians during his rule? Got poverty and desperation, despite millions spent in aid by the West.
The same West that spent millions in Cambodia as well.

An unknown US "expert" quoting an anonymous source in the Lebanese Army - sounds like a really reliable source.Nohad Machnouk is the first senior Lebanese politician to openly blame the Jewish state

This means the government was not responsible at all. Oh wait - why did they resign then?

Beirut Explosion Likely Sparked by Maintenance at Warehouse, According to U.S. Assessment
As protests continue, Lebanese parliament approves a state of emergency that grants sweeping powers to the military
Lebanon is still sifting through explosion damage at its port.

BEIRUT—Maintenance work likely led to the explosion of a large cache of ammonium nitrate that devastated a large part of the Lebanese capital last week, a U.S. government assessment concluded, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The assessment adds to the emerging picture of what caused the Aug. 4 blast that killed more than 160 people, with at least 60 others still missing. The explosion has stoked public outrage toward Lebanon’s government, with many protesters demanding justice after the explosive material was stored for years in the port adjacent to the heart of Beirut, and calling for their country’s leaders to be held accountable for years of poor governance and corruption.
