Cambodian Govt to Propose Law Against Inappropriate Dress

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Where did you conduct your research? It’s absolute nonsense.

Please don't say anything hurtful about the girls. These are nice girls with feelings. Most don't read this forum, but you never know.
I'm not saying anything. Are these pictures you took? :?

This is totally correct, though I might say the times have changed from 10 or even 5 years ago. It's really noticeable.

I'd beg to differ. Times have changed, even 15 years ago people dressed much more conservatively. University students wore uniforms and the women's skirts were almost down to their ankles. Young women today are not affected so much by that wartime austerity and moralism - where the only women who dressed differently or were even out late at night were prostitutes.
Young women these days of course wear shorts a lot and whatever other outfits they want to. Lie anyone they are interested in looking good, fashionable and even attractive. Those girls in your photos all look high school age.
I agree, in the past girls dressed more conservatively.

There are also girls who dress to look sexy, not shown in these photos. Some of them are just ordinary girls trying to look sexy. Others are prostitutes, trying to get customers.

There are many girls who would never want to dress to look sexy, but wear shorts. Examples are shown in the photos.

You need to get out of this virgin/whore dichotomy, it's not the middle ages anymore.

I remember about 10 years i went to a wedding here. I wasn't so long in Cambodia and it was my first wedding.
I was advised on the conservative dress style and it was suggested that i buy a khmer style shirt and my partner get a khmer dress made.
When i went i saw many foreigners dressed modestly in khmer style and loads of girls dressed much more daringly in 'foreign style' dresses. Big cuts up the thigh and some fairly low cut.
I decided then that i would decide myself what to wear in the future.

As far as i know there wasn't any bar girl/prostitutes at the wedding.

Explorer gets the sanitised 'what we want him to know information' i.e. What we (khmer girls) think foreigners expect them to be like. when the reality is much deeper. Its extremely naive for him to believe the stories he has been fed then promote it as the absolute truth to us.

Most Khmer girls want us to believe that they are pure, srey sopheap, never-had-a-boyfriend types (oh that child is my niece...) when in reality they are a lot more liberal than they imply.
Many country girls, living with grandma are traditional, but when they move to the city they change quickly.

What are we doing with photos of underage girls in shorts on this forum ?

I understand that the photos were supposed to prove a point, but there is a fine line when you post photos of other people's children on the internet.

explorer comes across as a very naive, gullable child at times, constantly wanting to prove he knows more than anyone else here. To bad much of his info is incorrect

believing everything that locals tell him or seeing things thru glasses that are not exactly focusing correctly

its very tiring...

Stealing photos off FB of young girls, (why the fuck is he a friend of these girls) is not right
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

You’re not willing to entertain any viewpoint other than your own so you can’t have a discussion, you just give lectures.

And stop stalking young girls on Facebook - you’re just looking for trouble.
