There are medical sharks all over the world and cosmetic surgery is a big earner. In Cambodia, where you can buy a license to practice whatever, this sort of thing is bound to happen. I remember a case that was reported on CEO where a woman died following a breast enhancement procedure. She had saved up all her money and spent something like $5000 to get beautiful tits and she died from the operation, leaving a husband and kids.
It is already dangerous to have surgical procedures, even under 'good' conditions, so imagine the risk in Cambodia. There are so many chances of something going wrong. :o

I'm sure it's much better in general but there are loads of examples of botched plastic surgery in Thailand too.

Yeah well now that it's time to fix it, Kow isn't an option anymore since the fix will be harder to process than the original project...

Society puts alot of emphasis on beauty.
Most men see outer beauty first before they see the inner beauty. Add a mix of low self esteem and just about every women would change some thing about their outer appearance if the could.
Many Asian women go for a thinner nose lighter skin, etc.
Anti aging treatments are huge in America. Done correctly results can look amazing. Take a look at Madonna. 61, looking 40.
Not the same for middle income women in a poor country seeking a small boost.
Gotta do yr research.

The problem in Cambodia is two fold.

No licensing requirements (aka freedom) for anyone to do cosmetic procedures. Not medically trained, maybe not even trained.

Lack of qualified personnel and resources to fix botched procedures.

Thailand is a medical resort destination because they have both.

Cosmetic surgery in the USA has faced huge problems with unregulated "surgeons", as have many other countries. Thailand has some fantastic and affordable medical care but of course there are charlatans and fly-by-night operators there too. My sister worked in cosmetic surgery in NYC for years but eventually moved into plastic surgery for accident/ cancer patients etc, which she found much more rewarding. The idea of getting any unnecessary surgery done in this country strikes me as very foolish.
...only half of states require licensing or accreditation of medical offices where surgery is performed. But even when there are office-based surgery rules or laws in place, they often aren't enough, critics say. For example, most accreditation or licensing rules cover surgeries only if the patient is fully anesthetized.

True. But they usually have medical training, but not necessarily plastics training.

Plus, there are plastic surgeons available to fix problems.

Plastic surgery is still much safer in the west or a medical center in Thailand than in Cambodia.

Burns and accident surgery is more rewarding but pays a lot less. Cosmetic surgery pays much better, but the patients are more difficult. Which is better - being happy or being rich?

Happiness always over money, but with just enough $$$. 😀
