Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Cambodia News, Battambang Province: A horrific fire occurred due to negligence, at 7 pm, July 25, 2020, in a sawmill near the residence of the provincial governor in Romchek 5 village, Sangkat Ten, Battambang city.

According to the police, the fire broke out in a wood factory located in the house of the perpetrator, An Chanrath, a 37-year-old man who also sells gasoline. Authorities confirmed that, according to inquiries, the owner of the house caused the fire when he was pumping gasoline into a bottle. The wood factory that caught fire, measuring 10 meters x 15 meters, was reduced to ashes due to the fire caused by the owner.

But what surprised and alarmed the authorities the most was that the fire broke out very close to the villa of the provincial governor.
Authorities said that at the time of the incident, fire trucks intervened thoroughly to completely suppress the effects of the fire, but the wood factory was completely destroyed. Fortunately, it did not spread to nearby homes. (And especially not to the nearby governor's residence.)

Authorities also said that the owner of the house, An Chanrath, had burns on his right hand and was taken to the Battambang Provincial Referral Hospital immediately. Nobody else was injured.

It was concluded that entire incident was caused by negligence, and agreed that officials should take action against unlicensed petrol sellers as they pose a huge risk to the public and themselves.

Safe as houses..... 8)

Maybe they can stop people selling petrol in Molotov cocktails, and use containers that conform to the Petroleum Spirit Regulations 1982 (SI 1982/630).
