New Bridge Planned for Kampot
New Bridge Planned to be Constructed crossing Kampong Bay River
AKP Phnom Penh, July 24, 2020 --
The construction of new bridge crossing Kampong Bay River in Kampot province has been planned in order to facilitate travel of commuters and tourists as the existing bridge has aged and cannot support the increasing traffic flow.
The new bridge construction project was raised and discussed in a meeting held on July 23 at the provincial hall in the presence of H.E. Chev Tay, Kampot Provincial Governor and representative of China Road firm.
Mr. Oeung Chhay, Deputy Governor of Kampot province, told AKP on July 24 that the new bridge project is to reply to the growth of tourist arrivals causing traffic congestion, especially on the Kampong Bay existing bridge.
“As there is only one bridge, every Saturday and Sunday, the bridge is crowed, so the Kampot administration has a plan to build a new bridge to avoid traffic congestion,” he said.
“There is no detail information related to the new bridge construction, because it is in the stage of feasibility study,” he added.
According to Kampot provincial administration, H.E. Cheav Tay led a working group and China Road firm to study locations for building the new bridge.

I hope they build it North either right before or after the rail bridge. It's the only logical spot to divert all the heavy traffic from the city center before it hits the city (and that way it can come back out on the main highway well after the city limits).

Agree with that. And diverting the big trucks away from the town centre is a great idea. Sometimes you can hardly breathe on that main road through Kampot because of all the traffic pollution. The amount of traffic is only going to increase, so good news if they are actually planning for this now.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 12:42 pm I hope they build it North either right before or after the rail bridge. That would require logic!Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 25, 2020 12:42 pm I hope they build it North either right before or after the rail bridge. Yes, now they have completed a bypass that goes from Highway 3 to just the road that runs parallel with the river (avoiding going past the market) it would make perfect sense to put the bridge there next to the railway one. But lets see!

Re: New Bridge Planned for Kampot
Is there to be a new bridge, a reconstructed old bridge, or both, in Kampot ?
Cambodia News, Kampot: HE Chiao Tai and HE Kong Ieng Inspect and Assess the Condition of the Old Prek Kampong Bay Bridge to submit a proposal for reconstruction to the government.
........................
On the afternoon of July 30, 2020, HE Cheav Tay, Governor of the Provincial Board of Governors, and His Excellency Lt. Gen. Kong Ieng, Deputy Director of the Department of Engineering, Ministry of National Defense, together with provincial leaders, relevant officials and delegations of the Ministry of National Defense Engineering went to assess the condition of the old dilapidated bridge that crosses Kampong Bay river, in Kampot city, Kampot province (aka Rainbow Bridge).
The purpose of the official visit of provincial leaders and the engineering force of the Ministry of National Defense is to study and understand if there is a basis to reconstruct the bridge, which is closed at present to all traffic, except motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
HE Chiao Tay, Provincial Governor, has requested HE Lt. Gen. Kong Ieng to speed up the study of the new bridge construction project to begin as soon as possible, following the approval of the head of the Royal Government, Samdech Techo HE, Prime Minister.

Re: New Bridge Planned for Kampot
I hope they keep the old one for pedestrians/cyclists/motorbikes. Bigger/wider would be nice (for pedestrians), but the moment they allow cars it'll be a shit show. Hopefully a revamp/restoration of the the old one a d a new one way up river.
