That triangle near Wat Moha Montrey, between Sihanouk, 173 and 284 is nearly all medical stuff. Some of the shops on the Sihanouk Boulevard side sell medicine. The other ones have wheelchairs, gurneys, all sorts of stuff.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Strange how back in our home countries their thinking is,,, You cannot start a similar business near another business that sells the same products as you want to sell, as it will affect their business. Hey, I was here first , now piss off and find your own spot.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

On the corner of Streets 51/136 there are 14 - count 'em - 14 pharmacies. It's madness.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 9:35 pm It makes sense if they are also selling different products in the same category. Or if stuff is handmade originals.
But exactly the same product? Like the 5-6 pharmacies right next to each other’s selling exactly the same stuff? I still have problems wrapping my head around it.

Back in our home countries the business is called WalMart. Sells exactly the same stuff the mom and pop stores sell, for less, and more variety, and more convenience. The mom and pop stores soon go out of business.Duncan wrote:Strange how back in our home countries their thinking is,,, You cannot start a similar business near another business that sells the same products as you want to sell, as it will affect their business. yes, was very competitive where I came from. they would use any loophole to close you down. I welcomed the competition. its like st172 for example. do you think people would go to eat there if there was only one restaurant? I dont think soDuncan wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 5:12 am Strange how back in our home countries their thinking is,,, You cannot start a similar business near another business that sells the same products as you want to sell, as it will affect their business. On the one hand it draws more customers to the area so that's a positive, but on the other hand it drives competition and squeezes your margins. Great for customers but not so good for your bottom line as a business. If you have the only pharmacy (or whatever) in a 500m radius, you'll get pretty much all of the local business.fsdfdsdf wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 1:17 pmyes, was very competitive where I came from. they would use any loophole to close you down. Yes you're right, that one on the NW corner in particular does a roaring trade for some reason. 14 does seem like overkill though.fsdfdsdf wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 5:02 pmsome of them have queues outside so they must be doing something righttimmydownawell wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 11:22 amOn the corner of Streets 51/136 there are 14 - count 'em - 14 pharmacies. I take it mean that the NW corner one is NOT doing the standard Khmer thing and selling Exactly the same thing in Exactly the same way that all it’s competitors are doing. That particular place is providing something the others don’t have.timmydownawell wrote:Yes you're right, that one on the NW corner in particular does a roaring trade for some reason. 14 does seem like overkill though.
And the customers are responding. Capitalism 101 in action.
Maybe it might spread to all Khmer in general. Then Cambodia will the place the place to get unique goods and services.
