Aussie to charge $3k for quarantine

Post by lagrange »

At least in Cambodia you have a chance of getting most of your money back. Anyone landing in Oz gets hit with $3,000 regardless.

Why can't they allow people to self-isolate at home, like any other civilized country?

they used to but to many dickheads didn't do it plus getting from airport to your home can cause risk, but saying that even in quarantine still people sneak out.

Where does the"Lucky Country" term come from? Only ever heard Aussies saying that and never quite got it. How is Australia lucky?

People that have not been bitten by a crocodile, snake or redback spider, have not been through a flood , a drought or bush fire, call it their ''Lucky Country ''.

It was on a hot summer's night in December 1964 that Donald Horne gave the nation - to use and much more frequently to misuse - the famous words by which he will be best remembered.

"I was about to write the last chapter of a book on Australia," recalled Horne, who died yesterday, aged 83. "The opening sentence was, 'Australia is a lucky country, run by second-rate people who share its luck."'

Thus it was that "a series of essays held together by a last-minute final thought about what it was all about" became the best-selling book The Lucky Country.

It was meant as an indictment of an unimaginative nation, its cosy provincialism, its cultural cringe and its White Australia policy. But much to Horne's subsequent misery, many failed to detect his irony and many more, either wilfully or lazily, misinterpreted his words.

Correct me if I am wrong, but AU$3000 would barely get you 14 nights in a city hotel? What about food? I bet the room service will cost you you $100 a day.

Is this for returning Australians only? What if they have no money?
