Western expats in Cambodia watch in horror as China moves in
This UK article is very critical..
https://www.emigrate.co.uk/news/2020070 ... xxyyIQzQnEOnce a favourite with Western expats sick and tired of Thailand’s shifting immigration rules, Cambodia is now as close to a Chinese province as it’s possible to get. The first target was the country’s former favourite holiday destination of Sihanoukville, now a hotchpotch of casinos and designated as a vast international port on China’s new Belt and Road. The coastal cities of Kep and Kampot, also popular with expats as a refuge from their former location’s shambolic redevelopment, are next on the list.
The advertorials celebrating the Chinese takeover of Sihanoukville rave about five-star hotels, high end restaurants and shopping centres whilst its devastated local population attempts to adjust. Kampot and Kep provinces ae now home to expats on the run from Sihanoukville’s rebuilding, with huge swathes of former rice paddies between Kep and the border now the site of equally massive Chinese developments. Some expats are posting the construction is so huge it’s resembling entire cities, with the roads all but destroyed due to heavy earth-moving machinery and lorries.

It's also very short and vague. They never mentioned the capital or Koh Kong, far more important than their speculation about Kampot and Battambang.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

The headline makes it sound like the PLA is invading and killing everyone in its path.

True, but it's actually quite scary that they don't even need to do that!techietraveller84 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2020 7:52 am The headline makes it sound like the PLA is invading and killing everyone in its path.

Where this huge Chinese construction project near the border then?
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

Many are here if you like paying $200 or more to enjoy their company.

There seems to be a large increase in the numbers of Chinese people around mid Monivong Road 1. With construction work at Boeung Keng Kang 1 (BKK1) last night there were lines of concrete mixer trucks in wait to poor there loads at new developments. It also seems that in the same area there are more Chinese business, with hotels, supermarket's and restaurants.
Toul Tom Poung 1 (Russian Market) I noticed many buildings there to rent of late, with some older businesses closing down, but again it seems to have fallen favour for new Chinese business to open in some cases.

Always "hope" but never "expect".
