Siem Reap Province Bans Dog Meat Traffic (UPDATED)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I was drinking with some soldiers one evening and they had a bag of dog meat. I tasted a bit, it wasn't pleasant. Reminded me of what a wet dog's armpit might taste like.

Dogs are eaten daily in my little town it's a cheap meal , take that away and what they going to eat, or become vegans
It's not a cheap meal

It's more expensive than chicken, pork, beef etc

That's why, it's called special meat
It is where I live 10,000 Riel can feed 4-5, agree it doesn't taste good to gamey , the guys I had working around home ate it every day they love it. I haven't seen them being killed but can't be much different than a cow or pig when done locally not factory.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I've never heard of dog meat being cheap

Definitely never heard that $2.5 can feed 5 people on dogmeat

Somebody told you porky pies imo

My main issue with dog meat trade is the theft of dogs to supply the industry and also the disease vector from sick, poisoned or parasite riddled curs that then enter the human food chain

If there were actual dog farms where the industry was regulated and meat dogs were raised just for that I'd be ok with it. This happens in China, but not much here

yep just my imagination when I send my girl down the road with 10,000 Riel to buy it ,to give the seven guys working lunch every day

Everyone agrees with that, but can't think a local bussiness would be steeling dogs every day. Someone would complain.

Mr. B is doing social commentary on the news from the barang perspective, similar to the opinion talk shows popular in the US. Hopefully Khmer Times lets him keep this up and not ax him for stepping on toes.

Thumbs up.

Good to hear.

That dog meat traffic causes a lot of tail-back snarl-ups, and before you can bark, you're in congestion. Terrible jams!

Don't get me started on the fleas in your bonnet...
