T-shirts of bars and restaurants that no longer exist.

Post by Flexxman »

Recently I turned over a stack of t-shirts - the situation that you have many, but only wear and wash the five on top. These gets worn, laundered then put back on top. At the bottom I found a few of bars and restaurants that no longer exist, most were given to me in the past. Below a few (wrinkled) examples, I challenge you to do the same and find some nice remnants of Cambodian bar history in your closet. Please no 'Angkor Beer' or 'Danger Mines!' shirts although some of the more 'exclusive' beer shirts one can only acquire at promotions or with a ring-pull. Kind of hoping to see a Martini's t-shirt here...

Te Lee Hong used to be located opposite Phsar Leu in Sihanoukville, also had a drinks shop down the road:

Most beautiful bays in the world, Ocheteal Sihanoukville. Note that you only need to pay the membership fee to this organisation to be able to use the title, it is not some reward of sorts.

JJ's Playground Ocheteal Sihanoukville. Currently only partner in Yellow Moon (Koh Rong Samloen) and Yellow Sun (Kampot) as far as I am aware:

This one is from the Heart of Darkness which still exists. I bought it ages ago after seeing someone wear it in Bangkok. I liked the design and on my next trip to Phnom Penh visited the Heart only to buy the t-shirt. Which as I saw the next day, was also available for sale on the market - and at a much lower price.

I still have a Monkey Republic T-shirt from 2006. Pretty sure it doesn't fit me anymore.

Never had the desire to buy over priced usually shit quality tshirts from bars.
Used to see tons of old guys wearing them in thailand and all i ever thought was theres another sex tourist.
And excuse me if i am wrong, i have never been, but always assumed or was led to believe heart of darkness was a gay club, if so why unless gay i presume would you ever want to wear domething advertising it? Let alone go there.

Shame. I think you may have missed the point.

I have a small collection of Guinness t-shirts/rugby-shirts. I don't wear them as trophies; just occasionally, at which they cause a little memory recall.

I've not as many with me at present, as I once had. Some are bundled up in a box with other stuff that time has momentarily set aside. Others may be lost, MIA.
The cost of each? Generally around the cost of a beer, maybe two. Over-priced? Who really cares? Once I'm on pint #5+, I rarely give a shit whose round it maybe. I'm fairly certain I've spilled more precious liquid than I've spent on shirts. They're not a roadmap of my delinquency, per se. Despite what some of the memories they elicit may suggest. Often a snap decision while on my way to being wankered.
Just a scrap book snapshot of some of the things I've managed to do, and in some cases survive.

I still look forward to the day that I can buy a Guinness shirt in the first Irish Bar in the KoW that serves actual draught Guinness, on tap.

As you were...

Gay people, sex tourists, and Koreans. You are on a roll today Mr. Soriya. Certainly you can find some others that do not meet your high standards? Looking forward to more.

Well soriya thats why you should never assume things...Whilst Hearts present manifestation may be popular with gay people it has a very rich history going back to 1993 when it was one of the only bars in town in the late 1990s/early 2000s and so was frequented by a lot of westerners of different backgrounds, before becoming more a haunt for rich thuggish khmers. it probably only really became a main gay venue in 2013/2014 after pontoon opened but still plenty of young khmers gay or straight go

Some interesting tales here

Lol. My greatest failing in the Buddha's entreaty not to be sentimental.
I have so many old, formally "best", tee shirts commemorating various environmental/political campaigns of the past.

All washed, ironed and lovingly folded - bought out for suitable big occasions.
Stained, moth holes and mostly in appalling styles and colours, but no way i bring myself to thrw them away.
Lol, probably the most comprehensive documentary evidence of my person history in existence.

What’s wrong with having these souvenirs? A little something to remind oneself of memories of happy times, especially during this virus period, is a plus!

Rock on with the T-shirts.

I used to have one that had parrot’s blood on it.

Wore it until it was rags. Happier times.

It's great to have collections of '' stuff '' ,, bits and pieces, junk, old shoes, old clothes, books, magazines, etc. As they say, your junk is another mans treasure, ,,,,, so give it away to him and free up you life by living more simply and not having to worry about it all going missing or stolen. Your going to move house one day, maybe you will become homeless and only then will you realise that it is '' junk '' that is bogging your life down.
