Another Chinese Hydro Power Dam Proposed for Koh Kong
June 27, 2020
Another 150-megawatt hydro power project proposed upstream of Tatay River
A 150-megawatt hydro power project has been proposed to be developed upstream of the Tatay River, located in Koh Kong province’s Thmar Baing district, as the investor is proceeding with the environment and social assessment aspects at the sub-national level.
The firm, China Heavy Machinery Corporation, is currently operating the 246-megawatt Tatay River Hydropower Plant.
Victor Jona, Director General of Energy and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, told AKP that the Chinese firm has finished the pre-feasibility study and the company is currently on the stage of environmental and social assessment at the provincial level.
Once the process finished, the firm will be required to submit the report to the national level including Ministry of Mines and Energy and Ministry of Environment and other relevant ministries and institutions for assessment, he said.
If approved, the power investment project, as planned, is set to complete construction and link power to the grid in 2026, he added.
The proposed project is located about 20 kilometres up of the operational 246-megawatt Tatay River Hydropower Plant in Russei Chrum and Tatay Leu communes, Thmar Baing district, Koh Kong province.

Re: Another Chinese Hydro Power Dam Proposed for Koh Kong
The Chinese have a real liking for these projects, and power, that last word alone would make me think on who has power of energy of the country.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
Re: Another Chinese Hydro Power Dam Proposed for Koh Kong
considering the issues they are having with there current dams, maybe they should hold off.
