Re: Desperate Cambodian Workers Caught Crossing Thai Border Daily
Cambodia News, (Poipet City): Three Khmer women, who paid 500 baht per person to steal across the border illegally into Thailand, were arrested on July 14, 2021.
Authorities on the border say that the army of the 13th unit cooperated with the forces of Srak Keo Province, in the arrest of the three suspects above, as they crossed into Thailand, at Khao Din Village, Klonghaat District, Srakeo Province.
The three women said that they did not have any work in their village, so they paid a broker 500 baht each to go to Sra Keo province in Thailand to look for a job.
The women have been deported to Cambodia.

Always "hope" but never "expect".
Re: Desperate Cambodian Workers Caught Crossing Thai Border Daily
500 baht to cross the border illegally? Clearly not enough to give the border officials their cut.

Cambodian workers caught trying to get home in ‘fake Thai ambulances’
In a worrying sign of how the ‘Delta’ variant is crossing so easily from Thailand to Cambodia, 14 Cambodian migrant workers were caught recently trying to return to Cambodia in ‘fake’ ambulances.
On the 13th of July, the Provincial Police of Chanthaburi Province intercepted an vehicle at a checkpoint in Village No. 4, Thep Nimit Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, Thailand.
When police examined the ‘ambulance’, they found that it was just a normal minivan with ‘AMBULANCE’ written on the front.
Upon further inspection, police found 14 Cambodian migrant workers inside – 9 adults and 5 children.
They were being smuggled to the Thai-Cambodia border by 3 Thai nationals – named as Mrs. Kwanruedi, 45, who lives in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi province, the van driver Mr Sarunyu, 31, who lives in Si Satchanalai district, Sukhothai province, the pickup driver, and Mr Kunanan, 19 – who were dressed in PPE gear and disguised as emergency medical staff to deceive officials.
Investigators have determined that the three suspects were hired to transport the Cambodians who from Bang Bon district, Bangkok – which is a ‘red area’ under strict control for COVID.
The Thai nationals received 25,000 baht to smuggle the Cambodian across the province to Chanthaburi.
The 14 Cambodians have been sent to be treated and detained at the Field Hospital of the Royal Thai Police.

Migrant treatment centre feels weight of rising COVID-19 positive cases
Kamrieeng (Battambang). The Kamrieng Secondary School which was originally designated to receve returning migrant workers from Thailand has now been converted into a full fledge treatment centre.
It now houses 265 COVID-19 patients. Of this, five are infected with Delta Variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Thon Se, the head of the Kamrieng Secondary School treatment centre told Khmer Times Thursday that of the 265 patiens, 107 were migrant workers who returned from Thailand.
“ These people need to be quarantined and treated for up to 21 days, irrespective of how fast they are cured of the virus. For other patients, those not from Thailand, they are allowed to leave the centre once they are successfully treated and test negative twice.
“We have 20 doctors out of Sompouv Lon located here in Kamrieng and we do a 14 days rotation. We have just one ambulance and this impacts our ability to transfer severely ill patients to Battambang provincial hospital for more advanced treatment,” Se said.
Se added that some of the people receiving treatment in the centre are hardcore drug addicts, comprising returning migrant workers from Thailand and that this complicated efforts in treating them as they suffer withdrawal symptoms and are not easy to deal with.
