Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. problem is they need keep the borders closed to prevent what they feel might be a possible surge in cases.
and even when the do open the borders, I bet many will still try an cross illegally as they wont have the correct papers/visas, ( L-A visa) as obviously they wont have have the money to pay for them, ( runs around 20,000 baht++)

I dont see the land borders opening for ANYONE,( except medical emergency, thai's returning home and trucks carrying goods) till Oct at the earliest

July 14th
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has allowed Se Kaeo's communicable diseases committee to re-open the Aranyaprathet checkpoint to transport goods between Thailand and Cambodia.

Starting on Wednesday, 50 vehicles will be allowed to cross the border between 8am and 1pm each day.

Each vehicle can only carry two passengers, who must be screened for Covid-19 symptoms in line with existing disease-control guidelines prior to entering Thailand.

For now, Cambodians will only be allowed to transport goods across the border, not do business, said Aranyaprathet district chief Sawanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya yesterday.

July 18th
Thailand continues sealing its border with Cambodia to prevent the spread of COVID-19, allowing only Thai nationals and some groups of foreigners to enter the kingdom.

Trek home hits border snag
24 Jul 2020 at 04:00
Twenty-six Muslim Cambodians, including women and children, were arrested as they prepared to cross illegally back into Cambodia near Rong Kluea Market in Sa Kaeo yesterday.

Pol Col Thanapong Phothi, superintendent of Klong Luek police station in Aranyaprathet district, said police had been patrolling the border when they came across the Cambodians.

According to Pol Col Thanapong, the 26 people included seven men, 11 women and eight children. The women all wore hijab head scarves.

Police investigators found the group members all had Cambodian passports with immigration stamps showing they had entered Thailand in March before leaving for Malaysia through the border checkpoint in Tak Bai district of Narathiwat on March 17.

However, there were no records of them arriving back in Thailand.

The adult members of the group told police they went to Malaysia through Thailand before the Covid-19 pandemic forced border closures in April. They had spent four months in Malaysia where they worked. They missed home and decided to slip into Thailand illegally via the natural border in Sungai Kolok in Narathiwat on Tuesday and headed to Sa Kaeo from where they planned to cross into Cambodia.

The group paid the drivers of two vans 1,300 baht each to take them to Klong Luek in Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo.

I hope what you report is true. About 10 days ago the media reported that the 37 locals only border crossings between Thailand and here and Laos were open again. Those crossings remain closed obviously.

I am not sure how they are trying to cross. wouldn't there be land mines and un-exploded ordinance in some areas outside the normal customs and border patrol crossings? desperation! i suppose the people smugglers are doing it everyday and know where to go.

The above workers were instructed by the border Police Force and then handed over to the Poipet Samchat Center Workers' Reception Team for further work.

At the same time, Thai authorities continue to close the border gates, which are not yet open to passengers, except for ambulances and heavy cargo trucks to operate normally. They are not yet open for migrant workers.

Cambodia News: More bad news on the situation of Cambodian migrant workers trying to cross into Thailand this weekend.

A woman is reported to have drowned while crossing a river into Thailand in a group of eleven people, and another nine Cambodians were arrested by Thai black-clad soldiers of the 1205th Regiment in Aranya district, Sa Kaeo province, facing Cambodian territory in Poipet city on the afternoon of September 19, 2020. The migrant workers said that they knew it was illegal, but they have no choice because their families are hungry and they have no work and no food. They were deported back to Cambodia.

why not combine these 2
topic40412.html

There will be more and more crossing Cambodia to Thailand as there is plenty of work here and with the rainy season, farming is a no go for awhile.
Personally think the situation in camboida is worse than it is in Thailand regarding loss of income

Well duh. That’s always been the case. You don’t get mass Thai migrant workers coming to Cambodia.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.
