Public beaches in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Public beaches in Sihanoukville

Post by AndyKK »

Public beaches in Sihanoukville welcome local, international tourists

Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun said today that his authorities have marked more than 9,000 metres of public beaches designated for local and international tourists.
Speaking at a press conference at the Council of Ministers in Phnom Penh, Mr Chamroeun said: “Now tourists can visit public beaches freely. There are no longer fences surrounding them or occupied by someone.”

He called on the public to join together to keep the beaches clean.

One question, are the beaches clean now?

There are locals and expats plus are there now Chinese tourists flying in, because the Chinese areas in Phnom Penh are getting busy.

Well you did specifically say:
Public beaches in Sihanoukville welcome local, international tourists
..that's what Sir Stephen and Duncan were addressing...not locals and expats.

And presumably these Chinese that you say are flying in are subject to the same requirements as others incoming at the moment ie only business/retiree visa (no visa on arrival at the airport), virus clear health certificate, $50k health insurance.
because the Chinese areas in Phnom Penh are getting busy
???

Okay clutch, yes I quoted the article, are the Chinese under the same rules on arrival, plus is it not so some flights have not been happening, also is it not so they are not rushed like others, being that they can have 3 year term Visa's. Yes the Chinese restaurants on road one have got very busy in the last month.

More and more every week. Morning flights to Sihanoukville were ~70% full.

And local tourists have returned to Sihanoukville as well (compared to 2019 when the local tourist numbers plummeted).

It is a shame how Shittyville has turned into. I really like my past visits. Does anyone recommend owning a property there?
