read article 7 page 3 of 6

i cant quote from the english but it says
"............must have a Cambodian national license with the remaining validity of MORE than 1 year from the date of issuance..."

how the fuck do u do that when a Cambodian license is ONLY valid for 1 year?

I wonder if they will hold to the ASEAN agreement an now accept ASEAN driving licensees as well?

Anyone who sits the DL test gets a 10 year license (up to a certain age limit, 60 iirc, 60+ get a 2 yr license). Cambodians can no longer just pay for a DL, they are required to sit the test, and even if they do manage to just pay then they will still receive a 10 yr DL. The only people who get 1 year DL's are foreigners who convert their DL from their home country.

Also, I may be wrong, but I am sure this is only for Cambodians as I am certain that you can only obtain an IDP from your country of Citizenship.

As above, though it's still fairly easy to pay for a DL as a local.

Its says on the site if for westerners as well
and i now anyone can get an idp in Thailand if u hold a thai drivers license>

I was under the impression that that is how 95% of Barangs get their license?
so each year get a new one or can they get a 2year one after the first year?

Has anyone used a Khmer in a western country?

My thai license is accepted in the states, Nepal, Switzerland and Holland ( the only countries i have tried it)

Ok, that's good to know. In that case for a Foreigner to apply for an IDP in Cambodia they will need a DL with more than 1 years validity.

Yes, that is how the majority of foreigners obtain their Cambodian DL as it is simpler than going through the testing process.

No, if you convert your home country DL to a Cambodian DL it is only valid for 1 year and you need to renew every year.

If you sit the test and get the 10 year license, then every 10 years you can renew for a further 10 years. Unless you are 60+ then you only get 2 years.

Other posters have reported using their Cambodian DL overseas. I have no experience so can't comment.

Don't need an IDP with a Khmer license in the E.U.

I used mine for car rental last two trips back. Zero issues as it's in English.

I have a UK license also, but better to use one that can't follow you home.

I know my Cambodian motor bike license isn't recognize in Australia, maybe that will change soon now that Cambodia has been recognized to be able to issue international license permits, when I finally get back to Cambodia I'll apply for the international license and update my experience here.
