Riots, protests, demo's - in your town?

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Riots, protests, demo's - in your town?

Post by SternAAlbifrons »

Personal reports and photographs only. (please)

I am just polishing my lens.
We have a blackfella's march in Sydney this afternoon. All over the country actually.
I did not intend to go but they made the Sydney one illegal, only this one, so i changed my mind.
Our state here, NSW, has been increasingly rigorous at stomping on any public dissent lately. Cops much more confrontational and consciously intimidating toward any sort of public demonstration.

I believe in free speech so you can say i will be part of it - but i'm mainly hoping for some photo action and to watch how it all unfolds.. I will post the results tonight.
All the organisers, the aboriginal elders, have been telling participants they do not want anyone to come who wants to break any law - except the ban on this march.

Any action happnin' in your town today?

Non event. 400 loopys.
Boring too. I just stumbled on it and only hung about for 15 mins.
even the cops were yawning.

demonstration happening in Sydney
Many thousands have rallied in Sydney CBD to stop Aboriginal deaths in custody after an appeal court's last-minute decision to authorise the public gathering
The court's decision came 12 minutes before the rally's scheduled start at 3pm on Saturday.

seems like quite a crowd defied the ban

Thanks Australia for supporting Americas "back lives matter"movement :thumb:

Wow.
The state Premier (same as Governor) and the top cop went court and got an injunction late last night - to ban this March.
They said there would be 10,000. They got the injunction.

Organisers said, sorry, it's our land and we are marching.
Cops and organisers this morning estimated maybe 5,ooo would turn out.
(as it turned out, a higher court overturned that ban just before the march but nobody knew that)

News Corp (Fox/Murdoch) said 30,000
Cops said 50,000
so it was probably more like 70.
Amazing. aussies turned out in droves.
High energy, increadibly respectful to/by eveybody, including the cops.
(the cops realised it was better to roll over, smile engagingly, wag their tails and ask for their tummies to be scratched like cute little puppy dogs on this occasion. Public opinion well and truly swung behind the blackfellas right across the country)

A few photos later, nothing exciting, just big big crowds of people practicing citizen democracy in action.
The theme was to stop back deaths in custody - a live wire issue here for decades, but little has changed.

I popped in Boston the other night but they’ve moved the protests around the city instead. every day a different town, and in multiple places at the same time so it seems like a coordinated effort to reduce the crowd sizes. still, the city was armed like I’d never seen before. military police with small tanks on every corner. walking around it really felt like a war zone except everything otherwise was totally normal.

I read that other thread about the Cambodian nature protesters but seemed like just 10 girls going on a bike ride. maybe in a week that’s where we’ll be in Boston too.

That calculates to a 1:125 ratio.
Looks correct for the smart vs stupid distribution numbers.

Yes, but i believe it is the other way around in the northern hemisphere.
8)
which is maybe why you have so much more death and disruption in both areas.
