That’s like saying ‘mob justice’ is always bad in Cambodia, and the Khmer police and courts can be counted on to deliver justice and protect the public.Anchor Moy wrote:Which is why so many people here get their "information" from social media rumors. Unfortunately.

PP Governor Denies Phnom Penh will be locked down
Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng denied that the capital will be shut down to stem the spread of COVID-19, saying it was fake news.
The City Hall said police are searching for those spreading fake news on social media about the capital’s lockdown.
The reaction came after a voice message was shared on social media that authorities will close all entrances to Phnom Penh to prevent the spread of the February 20 community event.
“I would like to inform the public that the entry and exit of Phnom Penh is as usual. There is no shutdown in place. And what was circulated was false information. The Phnom Penh administration would like to reject this news,” Sreng told local media. “Now, the competent authorities are investigating this case.”

Fighting "fake news":
Cambodia to Host 10th Asia-Europe Editors’ Forum in October
AKP Phnom Penh, March 29, 2021 --
Cambodia will host the 10th Asia-Europe Editors’ Forum in October this year, with the top agenda on the fight against fake news.
The participants will discuss the strengthening of cooperation to jointly eliminate false information in society and preserve the value of journalism.
The forum will be held as a side event of the 13th Asia-Europe Summit to be hosted by Cambodia later this year.
H.E. Meas Sophorn, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, said that the agenda on fighting against fake news is made upon the agreement from the member countries.
The 10th Editors' Forum in 2021 will be attended by well-known editors from 26 countries, including 13 from Asia and 13 from Europe, to discuss the elimination of false information in society, particularly in social media and maintain the value of journalism, he added.
From 2020 till March, the licences of at least seven media outlets in Cambodia, most of them are online media, were revoked for broadcasting fake news.

What damage do these rumors do? Surely closing roads is an option and already happening in places.

More rumors flying:
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): On the morning of March 29, 2021, the administrative director of Calmette Hospital told the media by telephone about a fake voice message that broadcast that the hospital is exploding with Covid-19 cases, which led to the closure of the hospital. However, this is not true, and the hospital is operating as usual.
Dr. Mao Rasy, Administrative Director of Calmette Hospital, stated that the voicemail was confusing the population, and now the hospital is complaining to the professional officer to find the owner of the voicemail to be punished.

Why would they close the hospital because of a rumor? Unless the rumor is true of course.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 10:46 pm More rumors flying:
