This is America
Random off the wall question. How much worse would things have to get in America for an American abroad to claim asylum in the EU? If they actually start a cival war, how would that affect citizens currently traveling?

Re: This is America
No problem, the UK has open borders, once you get here it is very difficult for the government to remove you, murder someone, rape someone, violently rob someone and you may get sentenced to be removed after your jail time but human rights lawyers get involved and most people get to stay
Re: This is America
Or the blowhards on your deportation flight will form a sympathetic wall around you and have you removed from the flight, because you have human rights...tightenupvolume1 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 8:20 pm No problem, the UK has open borders, once you get here it is very difficult for the government to remove you, murder someone, rape someone, violently rob someone and you may get sentenced to be removed after your jail time but human rights lawyers get involved and most people get to stay

If the embassies are still open and issuing passports, in theory, it seems like an American expat (or any nationality) could just continue living abroad as before. So, it would take an event like that where embassies are shut down/non-functioning and your passport was on the verge of expiring. You'd either have to go back or seek asylum.Imnotasiain wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 7:38 pm Random off the wall question. I think even during the actual US civil war, the Union continued to function semi-normally in terms of trade, travel, foreign affairs, etc.,
except maybe when they had to send federal troops to New York CIty during the riots. That was a bit unusual.
