Cambodia has Listed Seven More Areas as Natural Heritage Sites
May 29, 2020
Seven more areas inscribed as natural heritage sites
Cambodia has listed seven more areas as natural heritage sites, according to separate sub-decrees.
With a total land area of nearly 3,000 hectares, the newly-listed natural heritage sites are Phnom Yeay Sam, Phnom Bak, Phnom Svay, Phnom Preah-Phnom Veng, Kiriyong, Phnom Preah Netr Preah, and Phnom Chunchaing.
All of them are located in Banteay Meanchey province, except Kiriyong which is situated in Battambang province.
The establishment of these natural heritage sites is aimed to ensure the environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, stressed the sub-decrees.
They will be under the management of the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions, the two provincial administrations, and the armed forces, added the same source.
Earlier on the same day, in another sub-decree, the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) also announced to include Phnom Pram Pi (Seven Mountains) of 353.9 hectares in Bour commune, Phnom Preuk district, Battambang province on the natural heritage list.
