OTJ teaching degree?
A while back when schools were still active, a guy from Thailand came to teach at my school for a while. He claimed to have a teaching degree. I asked what college he went to, and he said he didn't go to college. He claimed that he taught at the same school in Thailand for 10 years and was granted a degree through on the job work. Is this a real possibility, or was he just blowing smoke? If it is possible, how does one go about acquiring such paperwork?

I taught at a Thai government high school from 2002-2011....Foreign teachers without 15 education course creditshad to take a 1 month training course from Asia University at a cost of 7,500 baht. After completion, a certificate was given and you were allowed to teach at govt. schools in Thailand.
Two years later policy changec and that certificate was no longer recognized and guess what?
You were required to take another teacher training course.....this time at the cost of 50,000 baht.
And guess who the course was given by?
Yes... Asia University and the same staff who had given the 1st course.
Maybe he took some sort of teacher training course in Thailand.

As I know, you need bachelor degree to get a work permit to teach legally in TH.

Re: OTJ teaching degree?
Thats correct and that bachelor degree can be in any subject. The best English teacher I ever saw had a bachelor degree in bricklaying.Chuck Borris wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 4:03 pm As I know, you need bachelor degree to get a work permit to teach legally in TH.

can't really see how a degree in 'any subject' makes you an english teacher either?
Re: OTJ teaching degree?

But at university another dude had a bachelor degree in welding and he was a brilliant teacher.Kuroneko wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 7:19 pmA diploma or HNC diploma in brick laying yes ,but Bsc I don't think soMarty wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2020 6:49 pmThats correct and that bachelor degree can be in any subject.
