Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

A single dose of the Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines is only 13.8 per cent effective against the new Delta variant, a recent study conducted in Guangzhou, China shows.

The research shows that while two shots of the Chinese vaccines are effective at, 59 per cent in preventing the Delta strain and 70.2 to 100 per cent effective at preventing severe symptoms caused by the variant, a single shot of the vaccines was only 13.8 per cent effective in preventing COVID-19 infections.

The research shows that two doses are the minimum necessary to fight the new Delta variant and prevent severe symptoms, said Zhong Nanshan, China’s leading epidemiologist and co-author of the study.

I see this is a Thai article. Has Thailand been doing single shots of Sinovac/Sinopharm? Coz AFAIK in Cambodia it's been 2 shots all around 1-2 weeks apart. 59% prevention of infection and 70.2-100% prevention against hospitalisation doesn't sound too bad to me..
I suspect that Delta is more of a media variant than an IRL threat to those that have been vaccinated against, or have contracted and recovered from covid already; it's certainly fantastically contagious but ultimately will probably be less serious than the initial covid waves over the past two years and may still end up being more efficient than vaccination centres in terms of how many people it causes/caused to develop antibodies

CDC: Covid-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Fell From 91% To 66% With Delta Variant

Another revenue generating misleading headline - with a "qualifications" that undermine the headline within the article itself.

The self described "avocado eater" also fails to mention the crucial fact that vaccinations seem to be - on the evidence to date - still highly effective in preventing serious illness and death.
And isn't that the most important thing now?

Apart from that, if you can put aside your further reinforced scepticism, he does make important point
- but it just not mean what the headline implies.

An interesting read about the Oxford team that developed the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

Interesting that they had thefts and cyber attacks whilst in the development stage. And that the theif who stole 4 computers was kind enough to return them a few days later.

This is interesting.. Comparison of Pfizer vs AZ vaccines in terms of infection efficacy over time.. Despite Pfizer more effective initially, after 4 months AZ performs better..

TOKYO/ NEW YORK -- About 1.6 million doses of Moderna's coronavirus vaccine have been taken out of use in Japan because of contamination reported in some vials, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said early Thursday.

Several vaccination centers have reported that vaccine vials contained foreign matter, according to an announcement from the ministry, which added it will seek to minimize the impact of the withdrawal on the country's inoculation program.

The ministry said later in the day that the substance that had been mixed in may have been metal. "It's a substance that reacts to magnets," a ministry official said. "It could be metal."

Does someone know more about that? It's a bit strange and worrying.

Given that the first AZ jab was given in January* and Pfizer in December** in the UK, why is there a need to extrapolate this data beyond 3 months?

Shame that link is paywalled but this shows infection efficacy against the new Delta variant and I guess this matters for the purposes of determining booster shots and choice of vaccine. Of course, there's the other part of efficacy when it comes to vaccines ie keeping people out of hospital.

I found the source paper that included the above graph. It's a long read on the latest studies of vaccine efficacy with regard to infection. Interesting but not conclusive yet but there are indicators..

Are vaccines becoming less effective at preventing Covid infection?

I’m currently being offered a combined visit for a flu jab and Covid booster by my UK GP. I can opt out of the Covid booster, if I so desire. I’ve already had the Pfizer double, with the first shot in late February and second shot in early May.

I have not had a flu jab in the last 20 years (that I recall).

Is that graph and extrapolation provided by the scientific community?
