Check out this new story.canucklhead wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 11:39 am I just read that 80 local forces deployed to the red zone in Steung Meanchey have tested positive for the virus. Were they all vaccinated???
Seychelles, with 60%+ vaccinated have had a another outbreak, with one third of those infected having already had TWO shots. They were using SinoPharm (a gift from the UAE) and some AZ from India (probably Covax supply). Nobody knows the answer to the KEY question (yet): Of the third that have been vaccinated and are now infected, what vaccine did they receive?

Article not only doesn't state which vaccine but also which strain is prevalent. Yeah, it would be great to know which one they got. Also which variant of the virus is prevalent..albeit, they think it's likely to be the Sth African one.
Harking back to this post though post482315.html#p482315 it would be interesting to know if any of the third did end up needing hospitalisation as the vid in the link suggests they all vaccines are 100% effective at preventing hospitalisation and death. If so, presumably these people are nevertheless probably off work and require quarantine to prevent further spread. So still a strain on society there.

The Seychelles, which has fully vaccinated over 60% of its population against Covid-19, is bringing back restrictions amid a rise in cases.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:57 pmJust moved this to Vaccine News.Doc67 wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 1:00 pmCheck out this new story.canucklhead wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 11:39 am I just read that 80 local forces deployed to the red zone in Steung Meanchey have tested positive for the virus. The archipelago of nearly 100,000 people recorded close to 500 new cases in the three days to 1 May and has about 1,000 active cases.
A third of the active cases involved people who had had two vaccine doses, the country's news agency said.
The rest had either had a single dose or were unvaccinated.
Schools have been closed and sports activities cancelled for two weeks. Bars, restaurants and shops are to close early and some gatherings have been banned.
"Despite all the exceptional efforts we are making, the Covid-19 situation in our country is critical right now with many daily cases reported last week," Health Minister Peggy Vidot told a press conference on Tuesday.
More than four-fifths of the active cases were among Seychellois people, with the remainder made up of foreigners.
The Seychelles, which relies on tourism for much of its income, began vaccinating its population in January using Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine doses donated by the United Arab Emirates.
By mid-April about 60% of the vaccine doses administered in the country were Sinopharm, with the rest Indian-made AstraZeneca vaccine doses, Bloomberg reported.
media captionWhat do we know about the Chinese vaccines?
Trials in China and the United Arab Emirates have put Sinopharm vaccine efficacy at 79% and 86% respectively.
The World Health Organization is expected to approve the Sinopharm vaccine and other Chinese-made vaccines for use later this week.
In April, China's top disease control official said the efficacy of the country's Covid vaccines was low, although he later insisted his comments had been misinterpreted.
Researchers in Brazil have put the efficacy of another Chinese-made vaccine, the Sinovac vaccine, at 50.4%.

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
I think China is just brilliant. While other countries spend great amounts of time, effort, and money conducting clinical trials on safety and efficacy of their vaccines, before rolling them out for emergency use, China just pushes their vaccines out the door for worldwide use. Whatever knowledge China has, she keeps to herself.
The world is footing the economic, social, and political bill for clinical trials for China. And I don’t see People’s Party scientists at the forefront of these trials.
Wonder what will happen when it turns out the Chinese vaccines just aren’t as good as the others available?

US Authorises Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 12 to 15
11/05/21 23:14
WASHINGTON, May 10 (Reuters) - US regulators on Monday (May 10) authorised Pfizer and BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine for use in children as young as 12 and said they could begin receiving shots as soon as Thursday, widening the country's inoculation program as vaccination rates have slowed significantly.
This is the first COVID-19 vaccine to be authorised in the United States for ages 12 to 15. Vaccinating younger ages is considered an important step for getting children back into schools safely.

They will copy the West's creative technology (creative tech is not their strong suit because original and imaginative thought is not a prized virtue in China)newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 9:02 pm I think China is just brilliant. They will mass produce our vaccines and inoculate themselves with it. They won't give a **** about IP rights. They will then sell it globally under their own brand name and there will be a long line of customers willing to by it as a 'booster shot' for their useless original shots.
They are probably doing it right now.

I think their healthcare system can't keep up at the moment so data announcements are not a priority. This is an ideal job for the WHO to go and collate the data. Whether they will want to risk exposing the Chinese Vax as sub standard is another matter.

Sinovac seems to be doing ok after a poor start, at least according to this article.
"China Sinovac Shot Seen Highly Effective in Real World Study"
"Sinovac Biotech Ltd.’s vaccine is wiping out Covid-19 among health workers in Indonesia, an encouraging sign for the dozens of developing countries reliant on the controversial Chinese shot, which performed far worse than western vaccines in clinical trials."

Cannot access the Bloomberg (paywall) report but here's the entire Bloomberg story published by The Straits Times.Random Dude wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 11:20 am Sinovac seems to be doing ok after a poor start, at least according to this article.

Well, that's at least one good report on CoronaVac, although there appears to be no data on age ranges and how it does against variants of concern. And as usual, no Chinese data forthcoming as they appear to be letting other nations do the hard data work.
