One cant help but wonder will this vaccine be valid for travel in the future if a vaccine is required to do so?
BEIJING (AP) — In a rare admission of the weakness of Chinese coronavirus vaccines, the country’s top disease control official says their effectiveness is low and the government is considering mixing them to give them a boost.

Chinese vaccines “don’t have very high protection rates,” said the director of the China Centers for Disease Control, Gao Fu, at a conference Saturday in the southwestern city of Chengdu.

Beijing has distributed hundreds of millions of doses in other countries while also trying to promote doubt about the effectiveness of Western vaccines.

The effectiveness rate of a coronavirus vaccine from Sinovac, a Chinese developer, at preventing symptomatic infections has been found to be as low as 50.4% by researchers in Brazil. By comparison, the vaccine made by Pfizer has been found to be 97% effective.

Funny or not funny! but when talking about this with my girl shes whispering like its a secret and nobody should hear her talking shes scared. This is world wide news now , will it make the Cambodia new? and HE will be rightly pissed off with his friends when his children find out.
The Big Man had the AZ vaccine but his son and heir apparent had the SinoPharm one. Whoops! I don't suppose China have done any 'Mix n Match' studies to see if you can have another brand on top of their one. Would you want to take another proven vaccine on top of a Chinese one?

Here is the Worldindata site giving the Vaccine roll out %'s around the world. It seems that China does not supply any information about what it is up to. Maybe they are waiting for the real Phase III trials results to come back in.

Nearly all vaccines in Chile are Sinovac. Will be the first real test of the vaccine. It's not going too well right now but I withhold judgement as the same happened in Israel before immunity had actually kicked in

Camboda was given a free batch firstly. Now they have purchased more of the same vaccines to a tune of $1.5 million.
All, that said, from the outset the vaccine is not approved by the WHO.
I read somewhere that China can't test the vaccine at home because there is little sign, or too few people with the Covid19 virus.
The vaccine was given the status of emergency use by Cambodia's authorities. Now with the rise of infection in Cambodia's the status is now of vacation being mandatory.
China have once again shown they don't have to follow any guidance of combined world authorities, they have a country or more testing their product, possibly overriding any legal formalities, and for one poor nation, being a developing country, Camboda are paying for the none approved vaccines with hope that it will give an overall prevention for it's people.
No. They were given 700 000 or so Sinopharm vaccines as a donation (I think the total will be 1M). They also got 300 000 AZ from Covax. They've now PURCHASED Sinovac. Not the same. More purchases of Sinovac down the road, and more donations from big brother, but Sinopharm and Sinovac are two different vaccines.

@cautious colin Yeah, I have been keeping an eye on Chile. The didn't start their roll out in high numbers until early February so are a good 6 weeks behind the UK and they have had another surge. But so too has Colombia, it's third wave and they have a less than 5% vax rate.

It was on the radio yesterday that the Oxford AZ has been shown to be effective against the Kent variant and the Pfizer vaccine has shown to be effective against the Brazilian and South African variant. Maybe a cocktail of them both will do the trick!

All eyes on Chile.

Found this:

Chile has provided a real-time demonstration of the effectiveness of Chinese firm Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine, with its vaccination drive results showing it to be 56.5 per cent effective two weeks after the second dose. The findings were in line with Phase 3 trial results of the vaccine in Brazil, which found an efficacy rate of around 50 per cent.

But the study by the University of Chile also found that one dose of the Sinovac jab was only 3 per cent effective against infection, underscoring the need to get fully vaccinated. Efficacy rises to 27.7 per cent within two weeks after the second jab, reaching 56.5 per cent a fortnight later, according to the university.

Chile has vaccinated 7.2 million people to date, with 4.3 million having received their second dose. More than 93 per cent of those who have had both jabs received the Sinovac vaccine. The South American country has also approved the Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines and, on Wednesday, Chinese company CanSino’s single-dose vaccine was added to the emergency list.

The reference to "when his children find out" was he refers to all the peasants in cambodia as his children, they don't want, don't trust the china vaccine, and now we have chinese admitting it's no good. This bit of information won't get published in any media here while he's forcing everyone to have it,

Hard choices emerge as link between AstraZeneca vaccine and rare clotting disorder becomes clearer
By Kai Kupferschmidt, Gretchen Vogel
Apr. 11, 2021 , 7:15 AM
Science’s COVID-19 reporting is supported by the Heising-Simons Foundation.

What was a worrisome suspicion four weeks ago is now widely accepted: The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine can, in very rare cases, cause a disorder characterized by dangerous blood clots and low platelet counts. In Europe, at least 222 suspected cases have been reported among 34 million who have received their first dose of the vaccine. More than 30 have died.
“Causality is more of a journey to certainty than a binary decision," says Anthony Cox, an expert on pharmacovigilance at the University of Birmingham. But faced with the accumulating cases, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which had been careful not to point fingers, acknowledged on 7 April "a probable causal association" between the syndrome and the vaccine, recently named Vaxzevria.

As the link has become clearer, a possible mechanism driven by an errant immune reaction has come into focus. Now health officials face hard questions about who should and who shouldn't get Vaxzevria, which some countries have already restricted to older age groups, upending vaccination schedules.

Researchers stress that the troubles by no means spell Vaxzevria's end. In the vast majority of cases, its benefits outweigh the risks, and the vaccine, cheap and easy to store, is still the best hope for vaccinating large numbers of people in low- and middle-income countries. And some scientists suggest that a simple strategy could reduce the risk while stretching supplies: Cut the vaccine dose in half.

From the Chinese Embassy on FB:

Good news
In order to support the Cambodian government's anti-epidemic work, the Chinese government has decided to donate 400,000 doses of Sinopharm's new crown vaccine to Cambodia again free of charge. These vaccines are expected to arrive in Cambodia by commercial flights at the end of this month.
