Cambodia News (Siem Reap): On May 12, 2020, a big fish that is known as a Dragon-fish was found dead, floating in the river in Angkor Wat area, Krovanh village, Sangkat Norkor Thom, Siem Reap.

A police officer said he didn't know the correct name for this fish, but people call it Dragon-fish. When it was found, a large crowd gathered, as people came to help to take the dead fish out of the water on to the riverbank and to stare at it because it was so unusual. The fish was very heavy and weighed about 30 kg.
The local people said it was a rare fish that most people have never seen before and nobody knew why it died. The locals said that sometimes people go fishing in the area, because the fishes in that river are not protected.

Ok, you wildlife experts. Any ideas on what sort of fish is this ? And can you eat it ?

Looks like a large Asian Arawona, Scleropages formosus, Trey Neak... Sort after in the aquarium trade now and not so common here, but still around in some rivers. Anything can be eaten. Including most of the freshwater puffer fish found here (but not all so not recommended).

Yeah it does look like some kind of Asian Arawona/Dragon fish.
There are a number of different species/sub-species. Some of them extremely valuable.
About 15 years ago when one of the most valuable sub-species (Golden Arawona) was rediscovered in the wild for the first time in decades, in Koh Kong, i did a bit of practical research around the Thai and Oz trade.

Cites Treaty, Appendix I - Trade in specimens of these species is permitted only in exceptional circumstances.

The only real Golden i found was in a high end aquarium in Bondi Junction Sydney owned by a Calabrian mafia character.

The fish, quite a big one about 3/400cm (1 ft) long was absolutely flocking incredible.
If it was was not swimming, you would have sworn it was 100% 24 carat rich-coloured glowing gold.
Don't think goldfish - this was something else.
Something the mafia dude did not need to convince me was worth the $250,000-ish it could have fetched on the underground market.
Lucky for my conservation principals i didn't have 50 bucks to my name, this fish was as seductive to me as they are to the weirdo Asian tycoons who collect them.
