I can not understand why property that cannot be legally owned by foreigners is advertised for sale on a website for foreigners. Can anyone fill me in on this?

guessing the idea is to buy it in your partner's name... though I would guess there are several loopholes out there

If you have money to buy over half a million plot, you probably have the money to buy the passport too. Also there are other ways to own the land.

Foreigners can freely setup a company with Cambodian shareholder. Limit all rights of the Cambodian shareholder and be sole director of board and buy, rent sell a property in the name of the company. Noone can play behind you but you can additionally mortgage the land to yourself as an individual. These files are kept with the land files and recorded online to be seen while buying the land at the land department. You can buy by a guarantor bank (Canadia Bank, CanaTrust) as well.

On every expat forum there are a few idiots who believe that a "workaround" with a local partner is a safe way to own a piece of paradise forever. Until you continue spending money (construction and other) everybody is your friend as you will fill somebodies pockets. When you start trying to get a return on investment, the real problems will appear and teach you a lesson why you should not have invested.

when Im ready to drop half a mill USD on a piece of property in a 3rd world country where Im not allowed to own property, Ill be sure to do it with some non american foreign dude who advertises on a forum where folks complain aboiut the price of beer.

That boat has all but sailed on getting a passport now. I heard rumors of it once being $20k. in 2015 it was $60k. 2018 post elections it was said to be $100k but you needed to show a bank balance of $1M and now I am told it is all but impossible for a regular person to get (purchase)

I have a German one and an ASEAN one (not KH) by naturalization. Satisfied with both. Hopefully the ASEAN bloc will introduce a pan-Asian visa allowing less restrictive residence privileges.
