Pretend 2* Officer Scams $10,500 For Fake Police Job

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On May 4, 2020, in Khan Chroy Changvar, Phnom Penh, the criminal police arrested a man who was impersonationg a 2-star officer with the Ministry of Interior, for threatening to kill, insulting, scamming people, and using illegal weapons.

Lieutenant Mom Chek, administration director of the criminal department, said that on May 5, 2020, police forces were instructed to proceed with the arrest of Seng Sopheaktra, 47 years old. The arrest was coordinated by the Phnom Penh prosecutor Keo Sothea.

The suspect confessed that he pretended to be as a 2-star officer at the Ministry of Interior. He told the victim that he could obtain a post for him with the national police and the victim paid him US$10,500 for the job. But the fake officer pocketed the money and did nothing. When the victim realized that he had been scammed, he asked for his money back, but the scammer got mad and threatened to kill him if he asked for the money again.

So, the victim went to the police, and on May 04, 2020, the suspect was arrested in possession of a pistol with no license. Further charges are being prepared against the suspect by the Department of Criminal Justice.
