How do Khmers treat foreigners?
How do Khmers treat foreigners?
Expats this question is for you:
If you are a clean cut person how do they generally treat you when living in there country? Is it easy to meet khmer friends as well? Curious about all things related to the expat community in Cambodia - mainly PP or SR or the general consensus of everything and tips

Re: How do Khmers treat foreigners?
The number one inconvenience is the language barrier. Past that, the Khmers , Thais, Laotians, etc., are generally kind and friendly to other people as long as they are consistently RESPECTFUL. This is the notion in a Buddhist society. I say this because they understand aspects of cultural differences there, like you can "fuck" or "shit". However, once in a country other than his own, one should simply be kind, friendly and law abiding. This goes a long way in terms of making friends and staying safe.
Re: How do Khmers treat foreigners?
Thats really great to hear! I found alot of Khmer's to be very kind when i visited. Although i have yet to talk in depth with any of them. My biggest struggle was never learning Thai after being there so long. Where do you guys recommend meeting other Khmer's or expats? Any tips would be great thank you

Expect to take a little bit to figure out what things should cost, and where to buy them. You will be charged a "white" price by lots of folks in Cambodia. Make sure you have Grab to get around when you first get here.
Other than racist overcharging by many shop owners/tuk tuks, the people are pretty great. Cambodians are very friendly and many very kind.

Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...

In general they are like any other people. I agree with WildA be friendly and respectful and get the same back. Foreigner price or white price, you could say one with money, but not so because they don't do it to their own with money. But then again sometimes they rip everyone off when needed. Racist "why not" its all around the world, only some, try living out of the tourist areas.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

While I was riding to work one morning, in heavy motorcycle traffic, a guy waved and pointed at me and said something in Khmer. Thinking there was something wrong with my motorcycle rear wheel, I pulled over and looked around, and there on the seat behind me was my $750 phone. I was very grateful for the heads up! Many people could have lifted my phone when I was at the lights a minute before.
Re: How do Khmers treat foreigners?
Right after Khmer New Year I had to take my laundry to four different shops before a small shop took it. They were all obviously open and taking Khmers laundry but when I went up, they said they were closed. Guess they're all paranoid of foreigners clothes carrying the virus.
