First they killed my father, the movie

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Read the harrowing story previously.

Have just noticed that there is a movie version on Netflix. About to give it a watch.

Movie is okay, I wouldn't say terrible, but not a stitch on the book, on that I do agree.

So far is good. Hear beautiful Khmer speaking and see beautiful Cambodia countryside. About half way through. It's not quite as graphic as the book thankfully. I'm quite surprised there are such good Khmer actors tbh which is also great to see, plus it was nice to see PP with clean streets at the start (not sure if that ever happened or not) ! They also did a little montage at the beginning of life before KR, which although brief was also a little delight. One of the hotels I would stay at on riverside had many photographs of that time, and in particular beautiful dancing girls. I always looked at those photographs and wondered what happened to them. If you're ever going to see the best and the worst of people this is it anyway.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

She's a fucking liar. Her dad was secret police, the commies wanted him dead because he was a state fascist policeman. She told someone else's story
