Political correctness

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

You go after the President of the United States by insulting him while you never mention one other world leader in an insulting childish manner.
Of course you are applauded for your jibe.
Your lack of facts about china's response just show your ignorance or inability to open your eyes.
Toss in the superiority complex of the professor telling everyone to get a grip and you have quite a chuckle. Get a new gripe..
It is nothing new for people to mix with other cultures..races..religions...and find common ground.
What I find very interesting is how most of you would never think of giving a Trump supporter ...a second of your time...your collective minds are made up.

Oh, I forgot.. They don't count.
Why does someone insulting the US president cause you so much upset? Genuine question.

I don't understand people who put others, especially those they have no personal connection with whatsoever, on a pedestal and won't tolerate any criticism of them. I can admire a person, sure, but I'm not going to get offended if you say that Jacinda of NZ is socialist scum (American interpretation of socialism that is) - though I'd learn a lot about you and probably wouldn't even take it up with you.

What is there to commend about Trump and his handling of the COVID-19 response in the US? He's bounced back and forth between every extreme.

I've had many discussions with people on the other side of the aisle, whether that be about climate change, US / UK / Cambodian politics, economics, abortion. Sometimes they are constructive, sometimes it's evident that neither party is willing to budge, sometimes fundamental opinions are unchanged but more of an insight is gained into the others point of view.

Speaking of abortion, say that all abortions are stopped. What sort of life will a now un-aborted child have? They were obviously unwanted or to parents (or a single parent) who knew they couldn't provide for a child. Does that child grow up perhaps being an object of frustration for the parents? Does the child go into the system after being abandoned? Who will provide for the care of the child after they are born I'd the parents have nothing, if the mother has to give up her education to take on low paying jobs and get stuck into a poverty trap, if the mother is 13?

I always find it interesting the "pro-life" lobby always argue that they are being pro-life, yet will show no willingness for an unwanted child or their parents to receive funding or assistance from the state after being born. What about being pro-life after birth? Or does it not matter if a 5 year old starves or is beaten by an angry parent who blames the child for their poverty?

On matters of financial aid republicans seem all for bailing out large companies that do their best to avoid taxes (many republicans even cheer those efforts), or for propping up the farmers who produce vast quantities of maize which is unsuitable for human consumption and of which a great deal is destroyed or left to rot. However as soon as anyone talks about giving free education or healthcare universally and you get screams of communism and socialism.

A couple of months ago I had a discussion via a friend's Facebook post with an American guy working as a marketing exec. He gloated about how he always went where he could get the most by paying the least in taxes, the local people be damned. He claimed it was ok for people like Bezos or the Walmart family to take in tens of billions whilst subjecting their own employees to terrible conditions and low pay when a fraction of their increase in net worth could give all their employees a good quality of life (Walmart is another good example of the state subsidizing billionaires). He refused to have it any other way, he insisted he knows he won't be here forever and he has no children of his own, therefore the future of the planet was none of his concern. I was curious about his background and checked his Facebook page and I was surprised to see he was living in Vietnam and was the marketing manager for a business I had been a patron at a month earlier. I asked him if he thought his local colleagues would appreciate that sentiment. I also inquired whether the company itself also shared those values, as if it did I said I would be quite disappointed. I never did find out as he deleted his original response and thereby our discussion too.

Sorry that this response has dragged on, but I'm really curious what your thoughts are BR549.

Obviously not, Trump was only recently, a couple of years ago I know, demanding that Cambodia pay back the Lon Nol loan with interest.

Because American pride runs deep. Even saying “Trump” instead of “President Trump” is considered disrespectful but most people don’t care about that. But “Orange Genius” is overboard and you’d get yourself in trouble if you said it in some places. I’m a liberal and don’t like Trump at all but if you said it to my face I’d be offended too.

Bit similar to the monarchy thing where insulting the country or regent was effectively the same thing?

If "orange genius" upsets you, you must be apoplectic when you hear what others have called him (it's a little worse). I was talking to a mate of mine a while back about Trump and his supporters. He mentioned how odd it was to be having a (perfectly normal) conversation with a guy who seems balanced and reasonable only to find out he is a Trump fan. The first thing that goes through your head (keeping a straight face) is Whoa - What? I know very few people who are not American that have any time for him. I am Canadian and he is pretty well universally loathed here.

The best thing is, that Americans who support our country and president ccould care less what Canadians think about anyhting. You have an independent country becasue we let you be independent. Same for the rest of the western world, you suck on Big US Mamas tit and then whine about her.

Nobody likes us and we dont care. You better fear us though. Yap like little Pomeranians at our heels all you want, but dont dare bite.
