All Things Aviation

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

How's this for some outstanding airmanship?

Cool under pressure and balls of steel:

No it doesn't.

They wear parachutes and the plane has an extendable slide/chute which allows them to bail out at altitude. But at low level they have to ditch or crash land.

As a matter of fact there was a recent E-2C Hawkeye bailout in the news earlier this month.

The Airbus A320, with it's new 'fly by wire', at a small air show in Habsheim, France in 1998. The pilot got the blame. The flight had VIP guests, some journalists and a few children. A woman and 2 small children died from smoke inhalation having all survived the impact.
Air Crash Investigation /Mayday did an episode about it, S.9 Ep.3 (Pilot v Plane), which is worth a watch.
