Inspecting the B-17 bomber "Lovely Julie" the day after its pilot returned it to base in England and landed with no nose or brakes, October 1944. Out of a crew of 9, only the bombardier was killed by a direct flak hit over Cologne, Germany just after bombs away.

Am I right in thinking there are lots of ''blind spots '' for the pilot in that aircraft ..

Possibly from below.....but the Lightning has a bubble canopy which allows quite unobstructed vision for bogies at altitude and above.
