U.S. Air Force pilot Robert M. White after the last flight of an X-15 with the LR-11 engines. White flew combat missions in southeast Asia, the only X-15 pilot to see active duty in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
White inside the X-15 about to launch on the first flight above Mach 6. (launches from a B52)
The X15, a mind boggling plane.
Altitude: 314,750ft (Googs says 354,200ft)
Speed: Mach 6.04 (Googs says 6.72)

Re: All Things Aviation
Back in 2008ish, me and a Navy buddy were drinking at Pechenga Casino after watching Tony Tubbs fight ... met a older gentleman who was a former test pilot with John Glenn and some other big shot pilots ... man, that guy had crazy stories about crashing all these test aircraft out in the Mojave desert. Details fuzzy cause we were lit, but this post just reminded me of that night.Spigzy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 4:49 pm U.S. Air Force pilot Robert M.
