All Things Aviation
Re: All Things Aviation
A twin-engine Heinkel He 111 medium bomber over “the U-bend in the Thames, the heart of London’s dockland, and a landmark known to every Luftwaffe bomber crew” at 1748 hours GMT, 7 September 1940. (Luftwaffe photograph)

Re: All Things Aviation
Hi, flyers!
Sitting up on the roof at my new place in SR last night around ten, I saw 5 planes to the north of town heading in a N.Westerly direction. They were all travelling along the same path but between us, me and my partner couldn't figure out where they would be heading. One, okay, could be a random flight to anywhere, but five flights at that time heading in the direction of no major hubs?
Too far away to identify but seemed to be passenger jets based on I'm not sure what...
I'd love to know what some of you in the business think.
Cheers

Contrails typically appear from 25000 feet, upwards.*
Close together, or 2 minutes+ apart?
2 engines or 4? (Maybe 3, but not so many)
Probably just an airway.
Approximate route from Eastern Oz to anywhere in Northern Europe might pass in roughly that area.
More data needed.
*to make this reply an inclusive one, so to keep the foil hatters happy, it could be CIA spraying their diplomacy by other means, or whatever.

Re: All Things Aviation
I'd have to guess quite high level based on the apparently slow speed. Couldn't see any vapour trails though.
We saw five in the space of about an hour, roughly equal time apart so approximately every 10-15 mins.
Too far away to tell much about the planes, certainly not number of engines. Pretty sure they all had at least one
What's an airway? What us civilians call a flight path?
I thought Australia, heading Middle East or Europe but chalked it off as being a bit too far north. Also, seemed a high volume.
*Ah, it was the CIA, routing out Reds. Gotcha.
