Rockwell B1 Lancer? Possibly the most beautiful bomber ever built?

Witnessed one taking off last November while driving thru Vegas. Was on full afterburner at takeoff, beautiful sight.
Told my wife it's the second most badass Bone she'll ever see

Re: All Things Aviation
OK, this piqued my interest. Apparently, this photo was faked.
In reality a group of airmen who were serving their national service were bored out of their minds, so they set the aircraft on stands under the wings and retracted the undercarriage, then one of them lay on the ground pretending to be terrified. To complete the trick in the darkroom the stands were erased to create this hoax of an image.

Another version.
Possibly/probably Born out of tales that it did in fact happen, but not quite like this. Apocryphal, maybe?

Nimrod MR.2 - An airliner converted into a Maritime Patrol Aircraft and fitted with Sidewinder Air-to-Air missiles
The Hawker Siddeley Nimrod was a British Maritime Patrol Aircraft. It was an extensively modified de Havilland Comet 4C airliner. When the Nimrods were deployed to the south Atlantic during the Falklands War they were modified to carry up to four AIM-9G or AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles to allow them to both "discourage Argentine reconnaissance aircraft from spying on the UK Task Force" (that is a quote from the RAF Museum) and provide a self defence capability against interception.
