How long before air travel returns?
Re: How long before air travel returns?
Think there are a lot of optimistic people here, August/September to get to a medium level of flights(many routes still missing)... March/April next year to get something close to normal services... But the cheap flights won't be back years.
Re: How long before air travel returns?
I booked my trip on singapore air first week in march for flight leaving JFK to PP. Leaving JFK August 4th
I have to transit in singapore which is currently an issue ( among others)
anyway my flight has not been cancelled yet but that can change. I also plug in travel dates on the singapore airlines website. Just to see if it would let me purchase a ticket.. for my travel dates i can still purchase a ticket As of today.

I think they already understand that. It comes down to the rate at which herd immunity is achieved. If governments do nothing and deliberately allow herd immunity to be achieved as soon as possible, they would be accused of allowing the biggest mass murder in human history. To willingly allow someone to die is criminal negligence, let alone allow potentially millions to perish.hunter8 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 9:47 pm The above tinfoil hat comment was unnecessary.
Sticking strictly to science, however, which advises that respiratory viral infections are historically best survived by building herd immunity, would be beneficial to most everyone. Unfortunately, that understanding is not prevalent among policy makers yet. Mother nature cannot be duped, however, they are just prolonging realization of the inevitable.
Herd immunity will be achieved, but by slowing the rate of it happening, less people need to die as there is more capacity to give medical aid. It's inevitable that herd immunity will happen. It's not inevitable that millions have to die to achieve it.
It's going to be tough for most people for the forceeable future and only time will tell whether all these travel bans and lock-downs were the correct reaction. It's possible that more people will die in the long term due to the economic impact. We just don't know.
But for now, we know that it's saving lives and surely that's a good enough justification until something else comes to light.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never allow the dumb ones to lead the pack.
Re: How long before air travel returns?
Looking at flights Australia to Phnom Penh in May nothing but June seems flights available as normal, I've booked 1st June so hopefully June's when they are back on.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Re: How long before air travel returns?
Right now US is under a level 4 travel advisory, meaning no international travel. No visa on arrival in Cambodia this month. In addition, a continuing ban on arrivals from the US until the powers that be change their minds. Which is who knows when. Maybe June or July? The other question is will a return from Cambodia require a 2 week isolation?
On the positive side, the governor is doing a phased re-opening of Texas starting next week. Parks and retail stores opening Monday. Testing is expanding to anyone with symptoms and eventual surveillance testing, with results in 12 hrs, eventually 2 hrs. Until the vaccine.
Please be safe out there!

Re: How long before air travel returns?
just because you can book does not mean they will have the flight.
PLUS
does the airline tell you;
if the country s closed
requires medical insurance
requires a covid free certificate
requires 14 day quarantine
certain country passport holders not allowed in
I just checked for sfo-bangkok on April 29th on Kayak, (bangkok airport closed to incoming traffic till 30th)
plenty off flights
BUT at the top

Re: How long before air travel returns?
agree and so many variables. Currently a ban on U.S. citizens and i punched in dates and it would allow me to book it. I was like wtf... how is that possible. When booking flight, they arent aware of which nationality i am and where i am from.. or something like that. I do agree we all need to be extra cautious. My example of saying that i punched in the dates and was still able to book it isnt enough proof ..
