Girls, 15, caught trying to smuggle drugs into prison

Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday sentenced two 15-year-old girls to one year in prison after they were caught attempting to deliver drugs to their boyfriends detained in the capital’s PJ Prison.

Presiding Judge Song Bunnarith identified the two girls as Aun Thida and Sok Chan Kimnoy, both former high school students living in Tuol Sangke commune, in the capital’s Russey Keo district.

Judge Bunnarith said they were charged with “illicit keeping, transport and trafficking of narcotic substances” under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control. They were arrested on April 13.

“The court has decided to convict and sentence the pair to one year in prison. However, five months of their sentence will be suspended so they will serve a total of seven months,” Judge Bunnarith said yesterday.

Judge Bunnarith said that at 4.30pm on April 13, Thida and Kimnoy, brought what was packaged as food to the prison to give to their boyfriends who are detained at PJ Prison in Dangkor district’s Prey Veng commune.

He said that when they passed the prison guard post, the guards on duty inspected the packages and found drugs hidden inside the food.

Don't they just swallow it in prison ?

Gotta say those two guys have pretty faithful girlfriends! Maybe it was a scheme to get their girlfriends in jail with them long term so they wouldn't miss each other.

I wonder what the two girls' parents are thinking about now.
