I'd like to see (officially) what the offending article was, or whether it was an accumulation of things

Rithy quoted HE as saying: “If a mototaxi driver faces bankruptcy, they will have to sell their motorbikes to survive, as the government has no ability to help.”
Rithy posted this quote on his personal Facebook page, but the National Police today claimed that HE was only joking and that the quote was not supposed to be taken seriously.

Probably been a red letter before this.

The “If your poor, sell your bike” phrase is now trending pretty much out of control. Talk about the Streisand effect.

Re: Cambodian TVfb Director Arrested for "Fake News" Video
HE was probably referring to Western countries financially aiding businesses and individuals, for which Cambodia does not have the reserves. I suspect TVFB was paraphrasing that remark, which apparently hit a nerve with the government (maybe there were some previous 'incidents' and this was the last straw, I have no idea).
Not that the Cambodian government is known for clever actions, but the reaction at this time seems really dumb. Because of course it will buzz around on social networks, especially with about 2 million followers on Facebook. I thought Khieu Kanharith was quite internet and social networks savvy.
Unless the Cam Gov is looking for a reason to implement that state of emergency. Which, at this point, would be even dumber. But again the Cambodian government is not known for...

Khieu Kanharith is Ministry of Information. The cyber-crimes unit are under the National Police/ Ministry of Interior.

He should have said "Let them eat cake".
You could be next.

Much uttered, but I don’t think that was the part they got him in trouble. Repeating that the government doesn’t have the ability to help them did. The government can’t afford to look weak.theKid wrote:The “If your poor, sell your bike” phrase is now trending pretty much out of control. Talk about the Streisand effect.
Ask the average Khmer what does “let them eat cake” mean. It means nothing to them. They might consider it yummy and delicious. Especially since all the French all eat cake while the Khmer only eat rice. The citizens of Kingdom of Wonder don’t have a background in European history and are not majority Christian to understand.
Ironman has always been pro business, pro foreigner, and has allowed a large expat community to thrive in the Cambodia. Just don’t get involved in anything that might even smell like politics.

Isn’t it great the Cambodian Police will help the Cambodians to interpret the Iron man’s words?chiaojiang wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 7:32 pmhttps://cambodianess.com/article/tvfb-o ... ebook-postJerry Atrick wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 7:29 pmNever heard of it.nave wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 5:58 pm Wow..
