My viewpoint for what its worth: I am in my 60's, an objective description might be...overweight ( a little maybe), balding, possibly handsome in a darkened room or for a near-sighted bar girl. But I still enjoy being in the company of a pretty girl, and of course a companion for the long nights. So why the f..... would said pretty girl be remotely interested in hanging around a boring aging expat unless there was a financial advantage that might make her life a bit easier and maybe help her to support her family? Yes you can buy love or something like it and if you get a good one you can buy loyalty as well. I have a mate in Danang who married a Viet girl a third his age. One drunken night I asked if he thought she loved him. His answer..."well she says she does and that's good enough for me". Would be enough for me too.

There's no "right" amount. I’ve never paid an allowance to any girlfriend per se, but I’ve only had one proper live-in girlfriend here. I would just pay for everything on dates with girls that had a very low income, and play it by ear for others. Those who made a bit more money, she’s pay for smaller stuff and I’d pay for more and I knew they made significantly more, we’d split the bills or alternate who paid.

I’m now engaged, and she’s the first girl I’ve given money to on the regular. It started off with $100 for food, then $150. The deal is she buys all the basics, and I buy “foreign” food. So I still spend on food, but she’ll buy the daily stuff. She’ll also splurge though and buy some foreign stuff like cheese, smoked salmon and so on from time to time. I know she spends out of her own pocket (as $100 or $150 doesn’t cover it). Last month we agreed I should increase it to $200, but now since business is slow it’ll likely go back down to $100-150 :-/. At the other end of the spectrum, most of the guys I know who are married let the woman manage the finances, and they all say they like it that way. I don’t think I’d go that far once we’re married (though I can see how it would make life easier), but I guess it all depends on you. If she’s a stay at home girlfriend or something, then I think a decent allowance would be expected, and you shouldn’t be too picky about what she spends it on. Sure, if she’s always running out of cash on the 15th because she buys Gucci handbags or something, then maybe a discussion is in order, but you can’t get upset if she sends money to mom, buys clothes or whatever. A lot of guys also give their girl a set amount 1000-1500 and let her take care of everything (rent/food/etc).

i would allow her to make sandwiches
and perhaps call family as occasion says

otherwise she should earn every penny
of girl-friending for money
